Reference memory error?

Post by Mrtibbs »

I use Video 10plus with XP and lately, whenever I try to add music or an overlay track, I get the following error message and the program crashes.

"The instruction at 0x7c910e03 reference memory at 0xb9ebfd78 The memory could not be written"

Any ideas anyone please as this is really starting to frustrate me.

Have you by any chance recently upgraded the version of QuickTime on your computer (if you have it on your computer, of course!)? I ask because I recently started getting these memory error messages, not with Video Studio but with an allied program, Sonicfire Pro 4.5. When I queried this with SmartSound (who make Sonicfire), they told me to go into my QuickTime control panel, and in the Advanced tab, change it to Safe mode, and to do the same with the Audio tab. I did, and the memory errors went away. Since you are having trouble with audio, I cannot help but wonder whether the same solution for Sonicfire might also help Video Studio. Worth a try anyway.

If not, then that sort of error message more commonly denotes a conflict with some other program, and rebooting the computer often resolves it.

More seriously, it can also indicate that you have a faulty stick of RAM. There are RAM tests you can download and run on your computer for this, including one on the Microsoft site. Let the test run through a few full cycles as sometimes it might be just a problem with one sequence.

Hi Ken

Thanks for that information. I don't actually use Quicktime, but for some reason, even if I delete it from the start up menu, it keeps coming back and opening up on startup. Would it be okay to delete quicktime altogether or would this cause a conflict with video10plus?

I've also recently added a DVD program which may be the cause of the problem, never happened before this was installed, although it did come bundled with video10plus.

You can delete it, but it would mean you could not use the SmartSound Quicktracks feature in Video Studio, which is dependent on QT.

You could also try uninstalling WinDVD to see if that is the problem. A system restore to before its installation might even be better if you have not done a lot of tweaking of the computer since then which would be undone by the Restore.

Ah, I use quicktracks a lot so I'll try uninstalling winDVD.

Thanks very much for your help.

Don't forget the other tip Ken gave:

Yes. The suggestion from the SmartSound techs was of course to ensure full consistency between QT and Sonicfire, which is their premium manifestation of QuickTracks. Putting QT into safe mode restricts some QT functions for general purposes, but if, as you say, you don't use QT, this should not affect you at all.

I deleted WinDVD and that appears to have done the trick. Will also change QT to safe mode as well though.

Thanks for the help.
