DVD+RW Import into VideoStudio 11 Plus

Post by anniebrion »

Please Note I have the latest patches for VideoStudio: 11.5.0157.2 Plus

When trying to import video using DVD+RW(+VR) discs from my Sony RDR-HXD870 DVD recorder I get the following error from VideoStudio after 10% of the import:

"Failed to read DVD Information. Report ID: 0x80040901(2305)"

I have tried various brands of DVD+RW media all give the error. I have also tried on my two notebooks, these also give the error.

I have tried a copy of "Cyberlink PowerProducer v4.0" and this can handle the discs without error, so this would point the problem at VideoStudio and not my hardware.

The only way I can get VideoStudio to import the discs is to pre-process them with "Cyberlink PowerProducer v4.0" first.

Is there a patch that will allow UVS11+ to read these +VR discs?

Note: I can import DVD-RW(-VR or -Video) from the Sony without any problems.

Dear Annie,

Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support Services.

Please try uninstalling first your Cyberlink completely. But before doing this, kindly make sure that you have a backup copy of it and all its other requirements to be able to use it again.
Is there a work-a-round or fix?

How are you trying to import them, using the insert DVD/DVD-R or AVCHD, command?
They should import unless the disks have been damaged. Try checking for scratches and smears on the surface. If so, then clean the disc using a disc cleaning kit, then try them again.

It could also be the brand of disc being used. I've tried this on my machine, using the only 2 brands of DVD +RW discs I currently have, Memorex, and Fuji Film. Both imported with no problems.

Another problem may be the speed at which the discs were written. Some programs, like VS, may have a problem reading discs written at higher speeds.

I'm importing with DVD/DVD-R or AVCHD

The discs are Sony, Richo & PC Line and the discs are written at x1 speed (Real time).

The exact same discs work perfectly when imported using CyberlinkProducer v4 after going through its edit process. They also work in VS11.5 after processing with CyberlinkProducer v4 this is what points towards a software error/omission in VS11.5's +VR processing.

If you can import with Cyberlink why not do so and then use the imported files with VideoStudio. I often use a variety of programs when dealing with a video project. If I decide to use VideoStudio for editing I still tend to use MediaStudio for importing the DV from my camcorder and I still normally use DVD Workshop 2 for the authoring.

It looks like I will have to, but it would be nice if VS11.5 could handle the +VR format on it's own as it does with my older Sony DVD Recorder.

Can we assume that you first 'finished' the disks in your camera before inserting them in your computer, as per the Sony instruction manual? I know you can import them using Cyberlink, but I don't know what Cyberlink does or what it can handle... But VS definitely needs the DVDs from some kinds of DVD cameras to first be finished.

My Sony is a DVD PVR STB not a camera.

DVD+RW discs are automatically finalised as per the instruction manual.

I have been searching the Ulead website and also the various set up files and built in help files. I can only find reference to the -R / -RW format not the + versions.

Please view:
Ulead VideoStudio 11 vs. other video editing products
Then go to the bottom of the page and look at the heading Video/Audio Formats

Perhaps someone on the forum can confirm that the +R / +RW formats are in fact supported.

Read my post above.. I had just tested this with my RW discs, which both are +RWs. My burner does not support the -RW. I also use DVD +R, and have no problems importing from them. However I haven't tested this with my Laptop, which has Vista installed, to see if that might cause a problem..

It looks like I will have to, but it would be nice if VS11.5 could handle the +VR format on it's own as it does with my older Sony DVD Recorder.
When I first read your post I recorded some video on an older "Sony DVD Recorder". I used a DVD+RW disk and had no problems importing them.
Maybe try copying the contents of BOTH directories to your harddisk and importing from the harddisk. Because it's a +VR format you must copy both directories.
VS & MF had this problem with +VR disks on some previous versions. This was resolved with patches & updates. It's related to a specific DLL file in the shared folders that ulead products use.
But if right now VS11+ can import from your older Sony unit +VR disks & cannot from the newer Sony Recorder in the +VR format then I think that ulead would like to be made aware of this.
Doesn't sound to me like your doing anything wrong or different and are experienced at importing dvd's.
I think this needs to be verified using a new Sony recorder in +VR format.
Unless, somehow, Sony is adding copy protection to the dvd, but VS11+ should report the disk is CPRM protected. I think the 23xx is a read error.
