Varying the 'on the fly' capture options in MF5
Varying the 'on the fly' capture options in MF5
In MF4 when I capture from AVI to MPEG-2 'on the fly' I can set the properties of the conversion using the 'advanced' option. For example if I know the length of the video I can set appropriate bit rate and quality settings to get the best conversion to MPEG2. In MF5 there is no such option, as far as I can see. Is there such an option in MF5? I recently used the standard MF5 settings of 90 minutes to DVD and in the end all I got was a bitrate of 4000. Using MF4 I got 6300 bit rate and 87% quality to produce a better quality DVD. Any thoughts please?

In versions MF5 and above I create custom templates in the Disc Template Manager. Then in the capture screen you select one of your custome templates you created to capture mpeg.
In version MF5 and above if you edit any configuration files your variable bit-rates may all end up at 4000 no matter how high you select as a VBR in your templates or settings.
Constant bit-rate works, this is only if you have edited a config file which then affects VBR encoding.

Thanks Etech, but what you are saying is that there is a loss of functionality from MF4 to MF5/6. I need to choose, at the time I convert, the exact properties of the MPEG compression I will end up with. I cannot pre-prepare countless templates that may or may not suit the compression I desire. So based on your answer I will continue to use MF4, but I do prefer MF5 for authoring. Thanks again
