VS8 DVD sound

Post by Baldrick »

I have created an AVI file of my edited video. When this is played the sound is fine. After burning to DVD the sound can be described as hesitant, ploppy or breaking up. I have defragmented the hard drive, checked for errors and there is plenty of free space.
Burning the same AVI file to DVD using MedioStream NeoDVDPlus5 the sound is OK but I would prefer to use VS8 as there are more menu options.
Please can anyone help.

Thanks.

Before opening the burning module, and with your AVI file in the timeline, go to Share > Create Video File > DVD. This will produce a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file. Test it and see if the sound is OK. If it is, then you can go Share > Create Disc and use that new file to burn it to DVD.

Many thanks for your reply. I will try your suggestion and report back.
I thought it may be due to the sound being too loud causing clipping but AVI versions of the same file saved at lower volumes still produce the same effect when burnt to DVD.

If the resulting MPEG-2 file is OK, and you go to burn it, just remember to check the 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files' box which can be found in the little cogwheel icon in the bottom left of the burning module screen.

Ken,

Success at long last :D . I think it was something to do with the slider not being set to 100% quality or the data rate set to fixed under the Compression tab.
This disc was the second of an Egypt holiday but the first disc burnt without any problem. Why? It doesn't matter now but in future I must follow the Recommended Procedure for trouble free DVDs as described by jchunter on this site.
Thanks again for your support.
