I get your point about authoring programs... but this is just USELESS!
I have a main menu screen and then thumbnail screens.
You need a button to play the "movie" and another button to take you to the thumbnails... It only makes sense. To do otherwise is confusing and useless.
I finally gave up and went to windows moviemaker. It is sad that moviemaker does this and not a program I paid for. It has Play movie and "Scenes" buttons..
duh
can't seem to customize menus Please help!

I am somewhat confused about your confusion. Duh!
Right, you have a main menu. I am not sure which one you chose, whether a Smart Menu or thumbnail or whatever, but it seems to work whichever one you choose. So on your main menu you have an image and the name assigned to the main video. OK?
Somewhere on the page (different spots according to the template) there is a pretty obvious Play button (forward pointing triangle by default). Click that and the whole video starts playing. Right?
But if you click on the name of the video, it takes you to the Chapter menu with appropriate number of thumbnails. Right? Or wrong in your case?
If it's right, then I repeat I am confused about your confusion. You thus have on the first page of the menu both a play button and another which takes you to the Chapter menu, which is what I thought you were after...

re
you are correct.
I can change the text in the main menu button to say...chapters or scenes..
but then people see that arrow. I don't seem to be able to label it.
When I used cheapo roxio, I had this setup but I could label it so one arrow or box said, Play video and the other said Chapters.
now, to complicate the mix, when I made a dvd with my limited menus, there was sound in the background audio that I picked but my movie soundtrack was silent. It is 90 minutes so I set the prefs for that and it changed to mpeg audio...maybe that is what did it. I'll have to experiment with a few disks to get it right...
