Capturing HDV problems

Post by markguitre »

I cannot capture with UVS 10+ or even HDV split without tons of artifacts creeping into the footage: blocks of green color, pixilated squares, stuttering movement. HDV split indicates "lost packets, lost packets", etc.

I am careful to preview only with the camcorder screen, disable spilt by scene, plus I close down all background applications and every process I can. Still I can't capture good footage.
I have a 2.0 processor laptop with 1gb memory. Do I need a new machine, or can I do something to make this one capture smoothly?

... And we are expected to make an informed guess as to what kind of camera you are using? Give us a hint at least! Does it capture high def DV? High def mpeg-2? AVCHD? How is it connected to your computer? And speaking of computers, can you give us a bit more of an idea about its other architecture, other than that it is a "2.0 processor laptop with 1gb memory". Is that definitely an Intel processor? If so, is it a Pentium IV, a Centrino, dual core or Core 2 Duo? And you might also like to give us a hint as to what operating system it is using...

Capturing HDV problems cont.

Ken,
Sorry for the initial lack of info. Camcorder is a Sony HDR-HC7. connected via firewire to an HP Pavilion 6000, Single Core. AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML-37, 2.00 Ghz and 1Gb of RAM. The OS is Windows XP with SP2. I will also tell you I was able to capture HDV with only a few minor glitches as recently as 2 months ago. Now, for some reason, my system chokes on HDV.

Ah, and I don't have to write anything! Have a look instead at this thread, which is on the same subject...

HDV capturing problems ....

Post by markguitre »

I looked at the thread. I am using VS10+ (not VS11) for which I have already installed the latest patches. Between HDV-Split and VS10, HDV-Split worked much better for capturing...until now.
Furthermore, I have been using only Sony High-Definition or Premium tapes.
Might not a faster more powerful desktop (not a laptop) be the answer or is there something else I could do with my present machine?
