VS11 PowerPack post installation problem

Post by swilkens »

When I restart VS11 after installing the PowerPack, I see a progress bar that says "Please wait...". Before it gets past 0%, the program crashes (windows standard program error box). After this initial crash, VS11 seems to run fine except I'm missing a bunch of decoration objects. I'm wondering what else I'm missing because the progress didn't finish. Anyone know what's happening here?

I can duplicate this by reinstalling the PowerPack and restarting VS11 (it happens the first time after the installation everytime).

By the way, I have also installed the patch and am running the latest 11.5.0157.2 plus version

TIA,

Are you installing it on a Vista(which flavor, Home basic, Home Premium...), or XP?

When it crashes, do you uninstall using the standard uninstall from the Control Panel, then immediately try to reinstall? After uninstalling and before attempting to reinstall, have you deleted all the left over files from your PC, and removed any registry entries pertaining to VS11?

When installing what other intrusive applications do you have running, both fore and background? It is recommended to disable your antivirus, spyware, instant messaging, and other apps while trying to install.

I filled out my profile with all the technical details (Windows XP SP2), but I doubt that will help. The problem is only with the Power Pack. The regular install worked fine I have not tried to uninstall and reinstall. If it is a problem specific to my machine, it's probably due to a software conflict and not hardware related. I did have a Trial version on my computer that I uninstalled before I installed the real version, if that makes a difference.

I can duplicate it by reinstalling the Power Pack and starting VS11. Everytime yields the same problem. I hate to spend the time doing a complete uninstall since the program works fine. I was just wondering what it was doing during the "please wait" phase and if I should worry about it.
