Problem with DV-to-DVD, picture jerky.

Post by Mr Klop »

I'm thinking of buying Videostudio 11 plus and I'm currently using the trial version. I have a problem with the DV-to-DVD application. When viewing the ready DVD, the picture is jerky. This is clearly visible especially when the camera moves around and people move quickly. This is very disturbing and makes the video almost impossible to watch. While encoding DV material, I've chosen the "lower field first" setting (I'm using PAL).

I also use Videostudio 8 and have no problems. The picture quality is smooth. I'd like to use VS 11 because of its timestamp feature.

The other problem I have is with Movie Wizard. After capturing DV-video the captured clip never appears after pressing "next". Instead, the programme freezes. I wonder if these two problems are somehow related.

Any ideas what could be wrong here?

You might try updating your DirectX drivers, from the Microsoft website. It will still show DirectX 9(c), however the most recent update is November 2007. This has been found to correct many problems with VS, especially with VS11/11+.

Also I will add that preview playback is most often not smooth. VS has to compile all the changes (effects, transitions, titles, audio, filters, images, all overlay tracks, etc, "on-the-fly". This is real demanding even on the most current PC setups.

This depends on your source material. If the source clips are Upper Field and you have your project set for Lower Field, that will cause the symptoms you are experiencing.
