Unable to Install Visual Studio 11 plus

Post by paintura »

I am unable to install Visual Studio on my HP Pavillon dv2000 lap top.
The error says "Error 2711. the specified Feature name ('Plus') not found in Feature table.

And a second box comes up:

"Error. -1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.

Support emailed back:
We suggest that you remove any instance of VS11 on your system by deleting the folder if it exists in your local hard drive. You may need to redownload the installer to make sure that you are using an uncorrupted one. Try temporarily disabling your firewall/antivirus/etc. to have better connection with our servers.

 Like I did not spend an hour or so doing exactly that to begin with BEFORE I emailed support.

Anyway...the trial version installed and ran just fine.

After all this my question is...
I seemed to have "resolved" the issue by replacing a few of the files from the Download Full Version with a few of the files from the trial Version (with a few modifications) and have gotten it to load. It behaves slightly different...but errrr I think I have "hacked" the program somehow?! It won't take my serial number etc... I haven't run into an functionality issues though...

Is their any other "less invasive" way to get this program to run on a Vista system?

If the original "full download" wouldn't install yet the trial will then despite your best efforts you may very well have a corrupt "full download.
Now that it wont accept the serial number you can safely assume you are running the trial version which will self destruct in 30 days.
Whatever you do don't try to install the full version on top of the trial.
I would suggest re-downloading the full version. Uninstalling the trial and ALL TRACES of VS11 onyour computer including the registry.
Then, re-install the full version of VS11Plus.

Actually it is not a trial version...it no longer has the timer (my trial version had expired) and no longer has the buy prompt screen...I will try your suggestion just in case...
I do need to have this resolved ASAP...It needs to be fully functional with 24 hrs...I have a project due

I have Vista Home Premium, and VS11+ installed with no problems. One other user I recall had a similar problem to yours, though, and I suggested that in installing, he right click on the VS set up file, and choose 'Install as Administrator' even though he already had Admin rights on the computer. It worked.

Error 2711 is a Windows Installer error indicating that the installer could not find an included feature in the MSI database. This error usually indicates a previously failed installation or update, and it may indicate a corrupted installation cache on the current system.
Try and download/install the CleanUp Utility (msicuu2.exe) from the Microsoft website at http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;290301
Remove any previous install of Ulead VideoStudio using this utility.
This will solve your problem :)
