Windvd 7 or 8

Post by gettnbetter »

I've tried to fix this many times but can't get it nailed down. The surround audio seems to be backwards with either WinDVD 7 or 8.

I have an Intel D825xecv2 and a newer dp30dp motherboard with 8.1 support. I have tested that all 8 speakers are active and correct using the sigmatel audio test (or on the 825 mb a similar tool).

When I use the test in WinDVD the audio goes left, center, right, sub, rear right, rear left, side left, side right. If I use a audio test dvd or the THX optimizer on many other DVD's the audio is messed up the same.

The only solution I have found is to force the rear to be the sides and the sides to be the rear by physically swapping the plugs in the back of the computer. Unfortunately this leaves the system audio all messed up.

Why is the rear surround channels backwards in both WinDVD 7 and 8?

Is there a known fix?

Sounds to me like a wiring problem - square pegs in round holes.

It's windvd. The rear surround audio is messed up on an 8.1 system and has been since version 7. Whatever wiring problem exists exists in software. When the side should make noise it comes out the rear. This only occurs with Windvd, not with cyberdvd or any other audio package I've tested to date. If I make a hardware change for Windvd EVERY other software that makes noise will be backwards.

I'd rather hear windvd output sounds on the correct channel.

I can't believe nobody else has noticed this?

Maybe it's because people are rare to own a 8.1 surround sound system.

I guess you need to report to Corel Tech Support for such problem.

Isn't a 8.1 sound system has 9 speakers? Or is it a 7.1 sound system (8 speakers)?

It's just any old Intel motherboard with their on-board audio. Have a 7 speakers and a sub so it's actually 7.1.

The sound comes out of the correct speakers with everything except windvd.

Yea, it's probably rare to have so many speakers.
