VS currently has that ability. It's called Ripple Editing.mplen2955 wrote:what i'd llike to see a prosumer version of video studio is:
- more, creative (professional) video filters
- to be able to lock the overlay tracks to each other and/or to the main video track (so that if you add video elements to the video track at the beginning you dont have to go in and re-sync all the overlay tracks to the video track)
- fade in/out with masking
Your input please: VideoStudio "PRO"?

Desired new features in VS11
1 Simple way to transfer effects, sounds, videos, images etc from an older version of VS to a newer version.
2 Vectorscope
3 Easy way to draw holiday travel route, placenames, arrows, bubbles and lines on images or videos like SNAGIT does on a map or image.
4 A readable manual, not like the miniscule piece of unreadable fine print crap that came with VS11+
5 Audio sound cleaner to remove audible hiss, spikes etc.
6 Truly scrolling credits that can uniformy scroll two or more screens of credits.
7 A special filter that creates an image that can be used for manual white balance that can be adjusted to represent a white balance in film being transferred to DV. This might help us correct the colors.

Hi folks,
I love the product as it is for single camera editing, but I often use multiple cameras in a theater setting. One camera takes the long view and the second camera does closeups and cutaways. I would like it to be easier to overlay the cutaway track, crossfade back and forth to the main video, and snip way unwanted parts of the cutaway track.
I often use a separate audio stream taken directly from the theater sound board, so it is important to be able to synchronize this audio with the audio from the cameras and then mute the camera audio. To align things well, I request the ability to "nudge" (move on the timeline) a track one frame at time to align the audio wave patterns or to realign an overlay track in case it gets out of registration. Being able to magnify the audio wave patterns would sure help this.
My current workflow with the current VS11 plus is - 1) separate the audio track from the main video to provide a reference for realigning clips 2) overlay the cutaway track 3) trim away unwanted portions of the overlay track 4) adjust in and out points of the many overlay clips 5) starting at the beginning of the timeline, click on the first overlay clip and move the cursor to the beginning of it - then scissors the main video at that point. Then move the cursor to the end of the first overlay clip and again scissors the main video 6) leaving the cursor there, drag the entire end portion of the main video to an unused overlay track and park it against the cursor 7) then delete the small recently scissored portion of the main video that is now the end of the main video still on the video track 8) move the first overlay clip into the space just vacated on the main video track 9) move the end of the main video back from it's temporary space on the extra overlay track and then move on to the next overlay clip. (whew!) Actually this takes only about a minute per overlay clip.
After all the overlay clips are squeezed into the holes on the main video track and finally tuned, I apply a crossfade to all of them and voila!
The final step is to replace the audio track with the external processed track captured from a minidisk and align that. Then titles and credits can be done.
This could be easier.... so specific requests are "nudging" by frame, and transitions from overlay to main video - being able to keyframe opacity of the overlay would accomplish the same thing - it might be possible to create an effect that applied zero opacity to the start and end of a clip for a specified number of frames (or seconds) and then went to 100% opacity.
Thanks for providing this forum...

Sounds like you could benefit from Media Studio Pro. If you're a Win XP user then you're in luck but if you move to Vista then you're missing out on a powerful, simple editor that has a long successful past but a dead future though it is an excellent tool for what you appear to do and need.
I cring evertime I see a post like yours... people who were looped into the simplisty of Video Studio but either out grew it or quickly realized how limited it was. It's a shame that Corel (Ulead) puts so much marketing and effort into it's lowest featured video editor and then abandons the perfect tool for users to move up too (MSP).
I cring even more at the promise (I put little faith here) of a bigger and better Video Studio (Pro?).... as an editor, I never liked Video Studio and as a Media Studio Pro user I have experienced so much frustration everytime I tried to use Video Studio. Anything else they try to make VS into I believe is just going to be a mess.
Media Studio Pro does everything you seem to ask for - it has for years. Anyone who still uses it is at and advantage (except some newer HD editing).
But, being that it appears to be dead, Corel should just give copies away for the cost of the disc and shipping... they don't seem to care anymore about it and anyone who pays more then $10 for it now with it's age and future is just plain dumb..... UNLESS, Corel wakes up and kills this stupid 'we'll make a better Video Studio' crap and bring back a newer, up to date, Vista compatible Media Studio Pro! Then we're all in luck!

The main feature missing as far as I am concerned is the call to change the cursor to the busy hourglass when many of the activities are started. It's just one simple call, and means that the curious pauses, even on high spec machines at least have some method of saying to the user that 'we're working on this, please wait'....Such a simple thing.

If nobody has already mentioned it, I would like to see multiple, menu-selectable text and audio streams in the authoring step.
I have to provide DVDs to multiple language groups, English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and Russian, and it would be nice to be able to do this all on one DVD. Currently, I have to maintain separate DVDs for each language.
Ulead DVD Workshop does all this for $149, but I hear it's going out of production.
The other Authoring tools I've looked at that can do this are just TOO expensive, $400 and up.

The price you quote for DVD Workshop is a huge markdown on the original price. And the bargain basement price is precisely because it is being dropped as a product. In other words, the other programs which can do what you want are more indicative of the price for a program which can do what you want. While I agree it would be a nice feature, I doubt that any video editing program around the price of the current VS will ever be able to include that feature...

Blu-Ray Support
I have had a High Definition video camera (AVCHD) now for over a year and have had to Downgrade my video to DVD standard in order to make discs because of costs and the "Format wars" (HD v Blu-Ray).
I have recently purchased a Blu-Ray burner and player so I now wish to make my video's into High Definition Blu Ray.
I have used Video Studio 11+ to make the video although it's somewhat "slow" doing this.
However after I had made my video and I wanted to compile a "Menu" I found Video Studio was a little less than basic , indeed it was useless for making a Menu with more than a couple of chapters.
I then looked around at some other programs to just make me a decent menu,
I found "Pinnacle " does not support Blu-Ray yet, even "Sony's" DVD architect does not support Blu -ray menu's suprisingly Adobe does not support AVCHD ,
However I did find "Cyberlink Power DVD version 7 Ultra" not only supports Blu-Ray but is quite a good program overall with generous Menu options and templates and "build your own" menu options.
This program almost looks like a copy of Video Studio but better,
Coral should take a look and get some ideas.
Please update the menu system for Blu-Ray as soon as Possible especially as DVD Workshop is discontinued Video studio should now incorporate this type of menu system with Blu-Ray included

Now that DVD Workshop will no longer be developed I have nagged Corel a few times to consider porting some of the DVD Workshop routines over to VideoStudio and MovieFactory. Whether they take any notice or not remains to be seen.
In the meantime you can use PhotoImpact to create your own. The supplied HD menus are as you say a bit basic with only 6 available, however I have converted all of the supplied SD Menus so that they will now work with HD / AVCHD and Blue-Ray.

I had been using VS for years, since the version 5 ..., but 2 years ago, I went away from VS and I moved to Magix 2007+ (now i am using 2008+).
The only reason for that is the lack of new major fonctions despite the "wish lists" that had been made for Corel on thi forum.
The lack of MSP support from Corel (no support at all, and no French version) also convinced me to move away, because I was fed up to wait...
Magix has much more features than VS for approximately the same price.
MSP is THE example Corel should follow: there is a large place for an improved MSP at a reasonable price, whereas I doubt that an upgraded VS would reach the wishes of the VS expert users awaiting for something more powerful than VS 11.5+.
I would be ready to go back to Corel if, and only if, they produce an improved MSP version at a reasonnable price (250$)...
My 2 cents contribution....
