Error 5.0.0 when trying to burn

Hello,

I have downloaded the trial version of ulead 11.0 plus and have created a short test edit and would like to burn it. However, whenever I click Burn DVD it comes back with Unspecified Error 5.0.0.

Is burning allowed in the trial version? I didn't see anything that said it wasn't included in the features.

Also, right before the burn screen I get an option to View the video but when I click on that nothing happens at all.

Any help would be great as I'm trying to decided if I want to purchase this program.

People with the preview problem have found that it is solved when they download and install the very latest DirectX update from Microsoft (it is still version 9.0c but the current update is dated November 2007).

And yes, burning is certainly allowed in the trial version. Again, the DirectX update might help.

If not, that sort of problem can be caused by a third party piece of packet-writing software (where you drag files to the burner icon where they accumulate until there are enough to make it worth burning a CD or DVD). The software takes control of the burner and denies access to it by other others such as Video Studio. Such software include Nero's InCD (which has to be uninstalled -- just the InCD module if you have) or equivalent modules in other suites such as Roxio. The latter module, though, can be disabled internally without uninstalling it.

Thank you very much for the information. I believe I have the latest version of DirectX but will update just in case.

As for Roxio... it did come installed on my computer by Dell so I'm guessing that's where the problem is. Do you know where I would go to change the settings so that it doesn't "take over" my drive? I'm not too familiar with Roxio so any help would be most appreciated!

I think the Roxio DLA feature is called "Drag to Disc." Check the system tray at the bottom of the screen and there may be an icon that allows you to disable it whe nyou want to use another program for burning. Also you may have to check for it as a start up item to prevent it always taking control of the burner on start up. Failing that you would need to uninstall it.

Well, I went through Roxio and did my best to disable the Drag to Disc function of the software but was unsuccessful. Instead, I went ahead and uninstalled Roxio and all of its components and tried again but am still getting the same "Unspecified Error, 5.0.0"

Any other ideas of how to make Corel work with my burner?

On a side note, upgrading the the new DirectX fixed the preview problem I was having so I have had at least a little success... now if I could just get the "slightly" important burn feature to work

**Edit** I just tried "burning" to a folder instead of a DVD and still got the same error so that tells me it's not necessarily my drive settings... Any other ideas? Can I uninstall and reinstall without losing my trial?

Hi Robbie,
Ok now that the actual burner has been eliminated we really need to get some basic data. Scroll to the top of the screen you are looking at now and click the button marked "Profile." Fill in as much of your system info as you can.
Then, go to this link http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8959 and read the info we need. Post it all back here and we will see if we can get this going for you.

Okay, I have updated my profile... however, I'm not sure where to find the info for my mother board and I'm not sure that I've listed the right info for the sound card. I had a tough time finding these in the Device Manager. Let me know what else I can provide to help resolve this error.

I'm running into the same situation.

My config details:

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3
RAM: 1.96 GB
Free disk space: 78.1 GB
DVD/CD-ROM: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7910A
VideoStudio: 11 plus

Is there any resolution?

From the Corel Knowledgebase:

When you try to burn a DVD, the error ¡§unspecified error 5.0.0¡¨ appears.

Answer: If Error 5.0.0 appears, it means that one or more of the files in the project is damaged. This could be a video, music or overlay file.

Try saving the project as an MPEG file. If the same error message appears when you save the project, close the program and create a copy of your project file.

Remove files from the project and try re-saving until you have identified the damaged file. Open the original project file and delete the damaged file.

I'm able to create a video file mpeg2 successfully.

I didnt understand what you mean when you say "Try saving the project as an MPEG file". The project file is saved as ".vsp" file. It does not allow any other file type to be saved. I tried giving "Myfile.mpeg" and it saved as "Myfile.mpeg.vsp" file. It didnt have any problem saving this file.

I'm not sure if video file is damaged or not as I'm able to create a video file of mpeg format.

The other thing that I tried was that I created a new empty project and clicked "Create a disc". In the wizard, I selected all the mpeg files which I had earlier created using videostudio. After adding all the mpeg files, when I try to click "Burn", it still gives me the same error.

Please let me know if you want me to try anything else.

When they say 'save as an mpeg file', they really mean 'create an mpeg file' (Share > Create Video File > DVD [or mpeg-2]). A project file (.vsp) is NOT a video file -- it is only a small text file which tells Video Studio what video is included in a project, where it is on the computer, and what editing has been done to it.

Since using mpeg files did not work, the only thing I can think of is to suggest you go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. The current one is dated August 2008 and can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in VS11 in particular which appear linked to Windows updates.

Note that DirectX is not included in the usual pattern of Windows automatic updates. It has to be done every so often by the user manually. So unless you have recently done this, you are probably still using the original, non-updated version of DirectX which came with your computer.

Hi Ken,

I installed the latest directx package and tried it again. However, no luck

It is strange that I'm able to create a video file but not able to create an iso image or dvd directory. Does it have to do with any of its feature like overlay or transitions? I have used transition effects, recorded voice, added title etc. This shows up nicely in the mpeg video which I created.

I have never heard of an Optiarc burner. But it could be that Video Studio's burning module does not like the type of discs you are using. So you might want to try another brand, or even type e.g. if you are using -R, try +R.

Can we assume that other programs can "see" the burner and that it still shows up in Windows Explorer as a designated drive?
