video studio 10- audio setbacks

Post by olsonju »

I have not been able to pull music from the AUTO MUSIC tab. I am experimenting and trying to add music to my first video on the timeline. When I click on ADD TO TIMELINE, and mark AUTO TRIM, it adds the selected music to the whole project. I then use the yellow tab bars and try to pull the music back manually to the first frame. I can't seem to make it work correctly. I bought several smartsound cd's from Sonic Pro, and am anixous to hear them in my video.

I've also watched the instructive video from takeoneflix.com. It is a very detailed and helpful video. It is really frustrating because the demonstration seems so simple, and yet I can not the music to drop into only one clip.

I've also printed the audio section from the manual. It doesn't really give basic 'HOW TO' for a beginner like me. You have been very helpful in the past, so I am hoping to get some direction from you. ty, jo :?

VS is seeing the total duration of your project. This is the total of all clips in the timeline. VS auto trims to the total duration. So this is what you need to do, to get the music trimmed to the duration of a single clip...

In the duration box, (first one that has the numbers in time format), enter the duration of the video clip you want your audio tailored to. Make sure that the playhead, in the timeline, is placed at the beginning of your clip. The audio will be trimmed to the specific time you entered, and placed in the audio track.

thank you vidoman,

i hate to sound daft but this is what happens when i follow your instructions. i changed the time in the duration box. i advanced the arrow (playhead) to the 3rd clip (about 20 seconds). then i clicked project, add to timeline, & auto trim. i was not able to place the "playhead" at the beginning of the clip. when I did my duration changed to zero.

the result was that the music began at the 3rd clip and continued to the end of the video.

i undid it, and tried again but kept getting the same result. sorry, could you explain further.

Uncheck the auto trim. When you enter the duration, you want the auto clip be made to that duration. The auto trim function seems to work on the entire project duration.

thank you videoman,
i won't use the auto trim. i am slowly getting the hang of it. although VS10 still wants to continue the music i select for the whole duration of the video. i can't seenm to get around this. i was using the yellow trim bar, and moving it back but this seems to be a waste of time. i have to keep a break in the song selections, otherwise the next time i add a new song it overrides my previous selection. i am only using auto music tab because i want to use smartsound music. are there some tricks to this? i re-read the audio section of the manual, and i am not impressed. they just provide very brief explanations. the video tutorials are really good, but a lot of questions come up when you start applying the music to your own video.
