Upgrade VS8 to VS11.5 essential instructions?

Post by scotty »

After 1.5 years lay off from video editing due to more pressing matters,
I am now excited :D by the prospect of VS11.5 especially as my 8 year old computer has now been replaced with a Dual core 2GB RAM laptop.
I understand to upgrade I will have to load VS8 on and then install the upgrade (this is a Vista machine so I can't run VS8 anyway),
a pain but I will have to go through it unless I want to spend even more money.

One thing I do remember was an essential sticky, that was posted at the top of the forum which quided you step by step through how to make a prefect movie.
Have Ulead since looked at this and modified the program to incorperate these vital steps or do I need to dig out my old paperwork?

I think that nowadays you don't need the old program - just it's serial number. When you install the new program it should ask firstly for the serial number of the new program, it will then ask for the old serial number.

Thanks sjj1805, that would save me a lot of time,

I just thought I read somewhere it checks your hard drive to find an old version, which of course with a new computer I won't have!

Any thoughts on the old sticky?

The one you mentioned before is still available here:
VideoStudio RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE by JC Hunter but is no longer the "Forum Bible"

We tend to refer to this other similar thread instead:

Hi Scotty:

I had the same problem as you with VS7, so I called Ulead
and since I had registered VS7 when I got it, they looked up my info
to verify I had a registered version of VS7 and then sold me the Complete Boxed verision of VS11+ to install on my Vista Machine at the upgrade price! (you can get the download verison if you want to go that route) Thats all you need to do.

Thanks mitcs0ke,

I couldn't remember if I had registered mine when I bought it,
just checked on this site whilst logged in under my forum password and they have my serial number so I must have!

I will give them a call, good idea of yours and thanks for sharing it.
