International problem with Video Studio

Post by eweger »

I got VS 8 bundled with a video cam. Installation was fine. But I can't get the program to take video input from my cam.

Cam is is Canon ZR 700 NTSC unit. I'm thinking that when I installed VS 8, I answered the question that my location is Israel (which uses the PAL standard), and that may have automatically set something to PAL, not NTSC. I looked all over the program, the documentation, online help files, resource index and knowledge bases, and found nothing to help.

Microsoft moviemaker (or whatever its called) did accept input, so its not a hardware issue with my computer.

Can anyone offer reliable suggestions please?

addition... I'm really not interested in hearing something like "get an update"... either Video Studio works with vid cams or it doesn't, I'm not spending more money to find out that I still have the same problem.

Welcome to the forums,

First VS8 is considered a Phased out version. Ulead, now Corel no longer provides support for Phased out versions. The current version is VS11/VS11+.

Secondly the version included with your camcorder is most likely an SE version, which is a freebie. Most of the time, the SE versions are missing several features that are included with the full versions. SE versions are bundled with hardware, and may have altered by the hardware manufacturer that included it in their package.

Are you trying to capture via Firewire (IEEE-1394), USB, or some other capture device? Please View This Post by Heinz-oz concerning capture problems. It deals with VS7, which is similar to VS8.

Included in Steve's tutorial From Camcorder to DVD is some helpful information about capturing from a camcorder.

Do you understand what an "update or patch" is? These are fixes to a program. If you're not interested in getting updates, then you must not want the program to work properly. If not then I will not suggest getting one. I will tell you that VS8 was a problematic version, and did have several patches (updates) released.
Please NOTE Updates and patches DO NOT install or work with SE, VE or TBYB (free bundled or Trial) versions, so you need not worry about that..;)

I would capture with movie maker and, if I liked the quality I get from VS, edit with that. Since it was a freebee, at least you won't lose any more of your money.

You have a NTSC camcorder so you need to have your copy of VideoStudio defaulting to NTSC. If you installed with a default of PAL, then whilst it is possible to alter it to NTSC every time you start the program it is in fact a pain and easily forgotten.

Your best move would be to uninstall and then re-install selecting NTSC.
