vista and .ufo files
help ! ...
I moved some .ufo files to my laptop
Vista is the OS (what a mess !!)
I just cant do nothing with my .ufo files :
- cant open them with PI 12
- cant move them
- cant delete them
Of course, I tried a 1000 ways ...
Of course, I've desactivated my antivirus, windows defender, my firewall ...
I would not mind getting rid of them ...
What should I do ?

.ufo files and vista
the files where created with PI 8 / windows XP
since they can be re-created, I would like, at least, to remove them from my laptop ... but when I try, I have the timer on my screen which could stay for hours ...
in fact I had first the problem a few days ago with a single file ... I thougt my file had been somewhat corrupted during the transfer and gave up for a later analysis ...
but the same problem occured yesterday with several files ...

This tends to suggest a corrupt installation. Please try re-installing.

I uninstalled the whole ulead staff ... and reinstalled ...
and I could see my files, but just once .... and then I am back to my problem ...
It looks like that if I open a .ufo file with PI12 and then close it, the file is corrupted ...
One file I had not opened with PI12 has be deleted with no problem ...
I must say that I have had no problem when working with .jpg or .bmp files

I've uninstalled PI12 once more ... and before reinstalling it, I have deleted all the .ufo files, without any problem ...
I can conclude that :
- I can create .ufo files and use them once ...
- once a .ufo file is closed, I cant do nothing of it ... not even delete it ...
Or to make it short : I cant work with .ufo files ...
This is a real problem !!
If necessary, I can tell you more about my config ...

This is real strange..
I've tried to reproduce this issue. I'm using a Presario C700 laptop, running Vista Home Premium, using PI12 with the updates.
First I attempted under my main "Admin" account, and no problem with the .ufo files. I then created another "Standard" account, that does not have admin privileges. Again I could not get the OS to refuse to allow me to delete or open and use any of the UFO files.
I'm just guessing, but it seems to be a security setting issue with Vista. I'm not up to speed yet on Vista, and have been poking around trying to find where the security/permissions settings can be altered. Hopefully one of the other members that understand Vista will jump in with a suggestion..

If it is a security setting then I suggest placing all of the UFO files into one directory on the computer. Go to that directory in Windows Explorer.
Setting the permissions is virtually the same as with XP with the exception it gives you a couple of extra "are you sure you want to do this?" sort of messages.
Just make sure that the "All User" has permissions to open, edit, delete etc.
To see/set the permissions right click the folder and select the [Properties] option and then the [Security] Tab.

thanks for your attention and suggestions ...
Desactivating all the securities is what I did first, but with no results ... I will do some others tests in this direction ...
It seems that PI12 inhibits .ufo files ... As long as PI12 is loaded, I cant do nothing with the .ufo files (impossible to look at their properties as well) ... As soon as PI12 is uninstalled, .ufo files behave normaly ...
I must say my computers are very clean (I watch that very closely) and that my Vista has got all the Microsoft updates do date ...

.ufo files and vista
one more piece of information :
I cant get my bin (containing .ufo files and others) empty while PI12 is loaded
not only the .ufo files cant be deleted ... the whole process is unoperating (in fact I've to cancel it)
but this result could be expected ...

Sad to say that in 30 years of using computers with a wide variety of operating systems I have never come across an incident where a file extension has prevented a file from being deleted.
I have know certain individual files that have refused to budge or even complete folders, but never a set of files based upon their file extension.
What happens if you try to rename one of these files to some other file extension - will they then delete? It is certainly an odd situation.
