I followed sjj1805's link above, entered my registration details, downloaded the Power Pack update. When I installed the update my Ulead VS 11.0.157.0 Plus now shows 11.5.0157.1 Plus.
sjj1850 reported that his version was showing 11.5.0157.2 Plus
Could the variation between these two updates be due to me not having installed the 'Vista' update?
Thanks to all for persuing this matter to a happy conclusion.

Phew. Issue resolved. I re-registered as a new user, in order to send a support email to Corel. And just for the fun of it, I tried to register my VS11+ once again, and to my big surprise they accepted that :D
So now I am downloading the update.

Svuppe -- I am wondering if your problem is caused by the fact that Corel seem to want a log-in for their store account as well as a log-in for the members area. I say this since normally my computer remembers the log-in and password for the Corel and Ulead sites. But when I went to the UK store site this morning to download the Power Pack, I had to enter the log-in manually. Could it be that you have either never created a Corel store log-in or else did so, but used a different log-in or password to the one for the main Corel or Ulead websites? (:EDIT: scratch that idea -- while I was writing this message, I now see you posted saying you were successful in logging in.)

Rascal -- I am wondering if the confusion over the final "1" or "2" in the version number comes from whether or not you first installed the update patch (NOT the Power Pack -- the 40MB -- but really only 27 MB -- patch) that came out on Tuesday. When I installed that, I got a new serial number which was 11.0.0157.2

I suspect that when I install the Power Pack I will get a new serial number again, which will end in the "2" because my current version also does so at it was patched. Others may end in "1" because they never applied Tuesday's patch. I am currently downloading the Power Pack.

The other confusion -- between Power Pack upgrade to 11.5 or the separate release of a much larger 'Version 11.5 Plus' may be this. Those of us who already have VS11 only need the Power Pack, and this clearly upgrades us to the full VS11.5+. We don't need the much larger files (320 MB/800 MB) because we have that extra content already as part of VS11. (FURTHER EDIT: I now also see that if you download Media One, which is bundled with the Power Pack on the European site, is a whopping 245 MB in its own right.)

I am pretty sure we will find that the separate release of a Version labelled as Version 11.5 will really be for people who are purchasing the whole package afresh, whether as the first time they have bought Video Studio in any version (in which they would have to pay the full price) or as an upgrade from a version earlier that version 11/11+ i.e. upgrading from version 10 or earlier.

Svuppe,

If I am not mistaken, you had issues in the past with Danish character. I also had issues with VS11 with special French character. I tried with the patch and power pack applied and to my surprise, it worked, no more issues.

Do you see the same thing ?

I think that your conclusion is probably correct. I didn't install the update patch
Thanks for the reply

Couple of Quick Q's (before I stuff my install up!)
1) Should I install the Update Pack (27MB) THEN the Power Pack (54MB) or just the Power Pack?
2) Anyone know if the above gives you "Split by Scene" during HDV capture?

Thanks
Nathan

You are quite right, and all those problems are gone here as well.

And regarding the version number, I also only applied the big Power Pack, and got the "1" at the end. I then tried to apply the update patch after that, and it updated it to "2", while keeping the 11.5 from the Power Pack. I can't find any ill effects of doing the patches in this backwards order. Everthing seems to work fine.

I am now wondering if I should also download and install the Patch as well as the Update.
Am I missing something by having 11.5.0157.1 instead of 11.5.0157.2?

I was confused about which patch/update to use.
sjj1805 wrote in his first post,
There is a new update pack dated 8 November 2007. It seems it may have replaced the one posted previously.
I thought that there was no need to have both.
I have since noticed on the Ulead update site, the one sjj1805's link points to, that they are showing both the update and the patch. I assume from this that both are required.
I have downloaded the 27meg patch, and installed it, and I now have version 11.5.0157.2 showing. It seems that it doesn't matter in which order they are installed.

I don't think it matters which order they are installed in, but they are most definitely different from each other, and most definitely both are needed. The patch is precisely that: it is meant to correct various identified problems in VS11/11+. But the Power Pack, which does not contain the patch, adds new functions to VS11/11+.

Both items are now visible on the website - I guess I must have been looking whilst they were changing their web page as the one dated 6 Nov 2007 wasn't there last time I checked so thought the new one was a replacement.

In view of this then I agree with Ken - both must be downloaded and installed. Sorry for any confusion I have caused.

Today, I have reinstalled the VS11+, and applied the patch and powerpack. All the problems found in the previous are still occured.

1) Can't capture from HC3
2) No previoew when add chapter
3) fatal error after clicked "add chapter"

Then I tried to download the update for DirectX (I'm using Vista Ultimate). All the problems are dramatically disappeared. I'm really wondering why the Windows Update can't automatically update the DirectX actaully.

And one thing I don't why the technical support from Corel can't point out this resolution. I had reported the above 3 problem to them, and discussed back and forth for many time. They are still no idea to solve these problem. Poor support!!!

Anyway, thanks for all experts here...

Doing further tests with smart render on MPEG clips from my DVDcam, I ended-up to a sad conclusion: smart render is still broken. After some tries in the past few days, the projects I had problems in the past were showing good results in the preview window with the patch/pack, making me believe smart render was fixed. Then comparing the same project rendered before the patch/pack with smart render on, I found it difficult to see any differences in the preview window. On my TV set though, the distortions at the end of every transitions is obvious. So I burnt the same project again but freshly rendered with the patch/pack and smart render on. Deception, the distortions are still present. It is just easier to spot on the TV set than it is on the preview window.

I thought that after 7 months working on a patch (as well as several years of previous versions of VS) this thing would finally work. How long will we have to wait for smart render to do what it is supposed to do ?
