3 months is a long time for me to take to reply, but better late than never?

Anyway, thanks for that tip. It was DEFINITELY Media Encoder 9 that was missing. How on Earth anyone is supposed to know to install that.....

I installed it on my Win98 machine and suddenly the Youtube "Best Quality" version went from a blur and not even the dimensions claimed of 640x480 (more like 200 x 100 or thereabouts from memory) to a proper 640x480 crisp result.

Note that comparison is of the wmv BEFORE uploading to Youtube, so the blur was nothing to do with Youtube re-coding etc.

So clearly there was a bug or feature in UL11.5 that requires Media Encoder 9 installed.

I have since bought a laptop with Vista and installed UL11 and upgrade to 11.5 and exactly the same result - I had to install Media Encoder 9 from Microsoft to get anything decent out of the share to Youtube option.

Now of course, once it has been hosted by Youtube then yes they do reduce to lower res and a bit pixelly if detailed action footage, but you have no hope if you don't get a decent file to upload in the first place.

I'm thinking this "feature" may be why so many people on here complain of terrible results when uploading to Youtube - not just poor, but terrible. Hard to tell the Youtube-induced problems from the VS11.5 problems, but there is a difference.

Or am I the only one who had this issue?

Anyway, thanks vidoman for the tip about Media Encoder - I would've got nowhere otherwise.

Just in time too - would you believe I have been pursuing this to upload footage from an international Australian football (Aussie Rules) tournament in 2005 and I'm only just finishing it off now - 10 weeks before the following tournament. 3 years and I'm only just going to get there! I'm ambitiously setting up my laptop with the hope of turning the footage around within 24 hours this time! Ambitious or crazy, we'll see...

Cheers.

Can't upgrade trial version?

Hmmm... so is there any way I can actually try out VideoStudio with .m2ts support before I buy it? It's really tough to evaluate the software without being able to read in any of my video files...

None of us here work for Corel/Ulead, and so have no control over their policy. I agree totally that it is silly of them to only have a trial version of VS11+ when an increasing number of people are buying AVCHD cameras, such as you, who need VS11.5+...

The only thing I can suggest is that you think about buying VS11.5+, and take advantage of Corel's policy of giving a full refund if after 30 days use you are not satisfied.

Yeah, particularly since, if I hadn't gone through the trouble of finding this thread on the internet, I just would have just assumed the upgrade system was broken.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Hi, David and Friends, how do you get this version info 11.5.0157.2 Plus, please? I bought version 11 Plus and upgraded to 11.5 Plus upon first launch and registration. But it still shows only as VS 11. Where did I go wrong?

I'm running Windows VISTA Ultimate on Acer Aspire computer with 2GB RAM at 2GHz.

Thanks for your attention.

You click on the ? symbol in the top right of the VS screen, then select 'About Ulead Video Studio'. The version number should be 11.5.0157.2 PLUS'. You have to apply both the 6 Nov 2007 update patch and 8 Nov 2007 Power Pack, in that order, to get that number. But the splash screen for the program will still only show VS11.

I installed from the box version of 11.5 Plus. It only shows 11.5.0157.1 PLUS. Does that matter? sounds like the first hotfix had to with intstalls.

Have you installed the updates that Ken referred to?

And yes, the hotfix was only for installation problems.

The Hot Fix may be first in the list, but it in fact was the last update to emerge. As I said, you have to install the 6 November update patch, which is what gives you the 2 at the end of the version number. That update was in fact the first to emerge.

The power pack says its for lower levels than the one in 11.5 plus, or did I miss a different fix? It would appear to be included in 11.5 plus.

Patch 1.
Ulead VideoStudio 11 Update Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/6) 27 MB

Patch 2.
Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus Power Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/8 ) 54 MB

It appears that in your situation you probably only need patch 1.

PowerPack thinks Ulead VS11 not installed

Post by Dickie »

Hi, I'm trying the 11.5 software out and did a 'try before you buy' download last night to see if it works with my Canon HF10 AVCHD camcorder.

I know that in order to import/ process / export the HD images I need to install the powerpack, but when I try to install it, it says that Ulead VS is not installed on my machine and it goes no further.

But VS is installed on my machine and I can run it fine.....

Any ideas how I can get round this? I've put the question to Corel but haven't had an answer.

Thank you!

Welcome to the forums Dickie,

Patches, fixes, and the Power Pack will not install on TBYB (Trial) versions. Also if you do decide to purchase, you need to make sure you purchase the Plus version. The Power Pack upgrades the 11.0 Plus to 11.5 Plus. The plain version does not qualify for the free upgrade to 11.5.

Hello Ron, thanks for your very swift reply - beats Technical support at Corel!

I had read on the Corel website that the power pack should work with the TBYB versions.... otherwise you can't try out the software for the purpose you need it for!

If I can't experiment to see how well the package handles the Canon HF10's files, then I'm not likely to gamble on buying the software so it's a shame if that Corel only let you half-try the software. They might as well not bother at all!!

I wonder if anyone on the forums uses the software with files generated by an HF10?

Cheers! Richard

No you missed the one most important word on their website:
* This Update Pack is for Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus (BOX, ESD, UPG, and activated TBYB) version.
* You will be required to sign in (register) before downloading the Power Pack.
Activated means that you have purchased an unlock or activation key, thus it does not work for non-activated or just the trial versions. Activated TBYB simply means that you purchased the program...;)

It should handle the Canon HF10's video. Since it records using the AVCHD/ h.264 codec. Do a search on the forums for AVCHD, and members etech6355 or Ken Berry. They both have experience using HD camcorders with this codec..
