Capture Length Problem
I have a Canon HV20 working with Videostudio 11 on a XP machine.
When I capture Video - say DV as AVI - the capture session stops when there is a gap between video playback.
The Capture is good till the Gap and the DV Stops as selected in the preferences to stp DV play when capture ends.
This is very annoying when I am capturing a tape with multiple clips (Or more than one clip) with gaps between the clips.
I would like to start capture and would prefer it to capture entire tape.
This way I do not have to tend each tape or come back frequently to check if the tape is being captured or it is stopped due to a gap in the recording.
Will appreciate your help.

These are the tapes I shot in 1997 - 1998 etc.
I do not recollect what Camera I was using - maybe a Canon DV Camera in the early days.
The gaps are between shots - so for example I taped something and then viewed it - next time I taped I forwarded to a place on the tape right next to the previous shot and started shooting again - leaving a gap between the two shots.
Thanks for your intrest in helping me.

Nothing you can do with the older existing tapes as capture is carried out according to the time codes imprinted in the tape.
For the future, the best way around it is to establish a single continuous time code on the tape before you start filming. The professionsals do this by simply keeping the lens cap on the camera, setting in a quiet place, and turning the camera on to REC and let it run through to the end.

Clevo,
Ken just replied that nothing can be done...
If you set DV Tape stop on capture that is what it exactly does..stop when the capture ends.
Same end game - the only advantage is that I do not have to find the place where to start again.
You could build a function into ulead to capture until the tape ends .. for a future update.

Yes, I am asking what happens if you UNset "DV tape stop on capture". Is that possible?todo wrote:Clevo,

You mentioned it was a setting. If it's a setting it can be turned on or off I presume.

OK... cheers. Thanks for that. I'm not at home and I wanted to know what happens.todo wrote:Clevo,
If you unset it, the tape keeps running although the capture stops at the end of the clip.
If you are quick, is it possible to just click the capture button if the tape keeps running? You might drop a few frames at the begining of each clip but that wouldn't be a problem would it?

Clevo - thanks for working on this from home.
The idea is to set the cature on and leave and come back after 60 minutes (or whatever the duration of th tape is) - or leave it to capture before I leave for work in the morning etc.
Right now I have to baby sit the tape or frequently check it and restart capture (I don't mind the breaks in the soft copies as I will store them in folders).

In the Capture window is the Duration box. That sets the length of time for the capture. If you set that to, say, 1 hour and 15 minutes will it keep capturing thru your dead spots?

I don't think it will. Never tried it myself though. Because with DV transfer via firewire, you use what is called a "Device Control". It will recognize that the time stamp on the video from the tape has stopped and will therefore correctly stop the capture also.
You can't have your cake and eat it
If there are gaps in your time code, that's it. The new clip would also start at zero again, possibly upsetting the capture if there are a number of clips which all start with zero.
