Hi, I'm trying to create a simple line of text that says
Hyper Text Markup Language
with the first letters of each word with a red gradient fill, and the other letters using a blue gradient fill, but each time I select either the first letter, or the other letters, and change the gradient fill, the entire line adopts that gradient fill.
I can individually set the colour of each letter with no problems, it's just gradient fills that have this problem.
Can anybody help?

You will need to split your text. This is done in the Tool Settings (F3). Look toward the bottom of the Tool Settings for Split Text. The text depending if you have typed a single word, or several words and lines, can be split accordingly.
Select your desired split, and press the Split button. Now you can add the color, texture, or gradient to your liking.

Hi Vidoman, many thanks for your help. I've tried the Split Text option, and it produces 'interesting' results (i.e. not exactly what I was hoping for
)
When I split by character (as I want to change the first letter of each word to a red gradient, and the rest of the letters to a blue gradient) the letters' right hand outlines all overlap the left outline of the next letter (I have a two pixel white outline around each letter).
EDIT:
I ticked the 'Invert stacking order' box, and then split the text, and this time it worked fine! I've now done exactly what I wanted. Thanks!
