Videostudio or MediaStudio????

Post by kenjancef »

Ok, I've searched for a bit and found nothing, so I am going to ask:

VideoStudio or MediaStudio???

I have a Canon HV20 HD camcorder, and all I really want to do is get the video on a DVD for family viewing of my new son. The only thing is they all don't have HD DVD players, so I would have to get the output on regular DVD's.

So what program would be better? I am not looking to do any fancy editing or menus and such.

And I am PATIENTLY waiting for the VideoStudio 11.5+ to be available because the 11.0 still doesn't recognize my HV20.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance!

Well...if you buy either of them you are buying an editor. And I think you'll find you'll end up doing some editing anyway...even if it's just a few titles and tidying up.

I'd go with Video Studio but like you suggested, I'd wait to hear the feed back from the upgrades to the latest patch.

I can't even imagine why you would be contemplating Media Studio when it is several times the price of Video Studio and is a (much) more complicated program to learn, when all you want at the moment is to do some simple editing and authoring. More to the point, much to the disappointment of its many existing fans, Media Studio is going the way of the dodo, and is not being renewed by Corel. It is already several years old and missing a number of the bells and whistles of available in other editing programs to deal with more recent changes in video formats and camera technology. And no further updates of it are expected.

I had problems with Video Studio 10+ recognizing my Canon HV20 until I upgraded to Video Studio 11+. I'm using Vista and transferring via FireWire.

There was a specific patch for the Canon HV10 for VideoStudio 10+. Did you/have you ever used that?

Thanks for the quick replies everyone!

Without checking the prices, i thought VideoStudio was the lesser of the 2... guess I didn't read enough.

I am still tempted to get VideoStudio now, only because I am anxious to get the videos on DVD by Thanksgiving, but on the flip side I want to wait until the "Bonus Pack" is out. I did download the demo last week, and I still can't get my camera connected, so that is another thing I am thinking about.

I guess I will wait to hear from you all.. from the hours of going through the forums, you guys rock!

Thanks again for the quick response!!!

VS used to be the lesser of the two. Since one of them is going to disappear, the lesser is going to be the only one.

How do you connect your camera to the PC?
