Ulead Video Studio 11 Video Editing Issues

Post by rhondadboyd »

I have a newer computer, I can specify if it will help but I have been working on a project using Video Studio 11 and it had always worked almost perfectly until now. What I am trying to do is to edit video clips I have taken of my family. My clips are .mov and all less than two minutes long. When I click on multi trim video, as I have done successfully many times, the editor will not work. When I advance the jog wheel it does not advance the clip. When I go back to project view and hit play the video plays perfectly in its entirety. I can't understand why it worked so many times fine and now has problems. This is my Christmas present to the rest of my family: pictures and clips of what the kids did this year. I would appreciate any help or suggestions. Sorry the question was so long. Thanks!

My clips are .mov
Some MOV files do cause trouble! In general, the more-compressed the file, the more likely you are to have trouble editing or converting it.
it had always worked almost perfectly until now.
Have you used MOV files before? Were they from the same camera?

Assuming you are making a DVD, you might try converting the files to DVD-compatible MPEG-2 before loading them into Video Studio. Here are a couple of FREE programs that should be able to convert your file to MPEG-2:
SUPER
SVCD 2 DVD MPG

The bad news is that MPEG-2 can sometimes be "difficult" to edit too. I have an MPEG capture card, and I had to buy a special-purpose MPEG editor.

The most trouble-free format seems to be AVI/DV (13GB per hour, from a MiniDV camera). I'm not sure if can find a free MOV-to-AVI/DV converter... SUPER may be able to make a PAL DV file, but the DV options are wrong for NTSC. (North America uses NTSC).

The update patch for VS11, released on Tuesday, is supposed to fix some (all?) of the problems associated with .mov files. You can find the patch on the www.ulead.com site by clicking on the Download button across the top of the website, then selecting Update Packs.
