The amazing, self-expanding video

Post by zforray »

DVDMF6+/SP2.

Why is it that when I import a 4.38GB DVD (dropping everything but the video itself) and then try to create a DVD, without menus, the resulting size is 4.97GB ?

Whats with the (unexplained) growth ? Why would it expand on its own ? I am removing stuff....not adding! It should fit back on a same-sized DVD without having to shrink what already fit in the first place!

Make sure that you've checked Do Not Convert Compliant MPEGs. If you don't check that box, the file will be re-coded to the bitrate in specified in your project settings. (The file size is determined by the combined audio & video bitrate, and the playing-time.)

If that doesn't help, the audio may be getting converted (perhaps to uncompressed LPCM). Or, for some reason Movie Factory just thinks the file is non-compliant, and it's recoding it anyway.

And, here's a hand online Bitrate Calculator in case you can't avoid re-coding and you need to choose the correct bitrate.

I just checked and "do not convert compliant MPEG's" is checked.

Yes these are Dolby 5.1 sound DVD's.

Playing time is 1:43.

It's because MF automatically adds background audio, motion menus & menu transisions. This adds some overhead to the dvd.
Proceed on into the menu creation and uncheck all these extra features I mentioned above and the file size should come out correct.
The dvd your importing is really full to start with (maxed out).

Huh ? I am not creating any menus (see my original post). I unchecked the "create menu" button.

Where did this DVD of yours come from in the first place? What is it? A proper DVD or a video file on a DVD disk?

You are not making sense. You give us nothing but every tip given is replied with "I did that already!"

What exactly did you do and what format is your video?

Yes, i missed you posted no menu. Something is seen as not compliant or MF is adding something to the dvd.

Some things to check:
The imported video should reside in a capture folder that resides directly under your working folder. What is the exact size of the mpeg2 video file?
If the size is 4.38 gigs and MF still blows it out try also under the GEAR icon to turn on "X-Disc" (check this box on).
I'm thinking that the audio part of the dvd is maybe being considered as not dvd compliant by MF. Go under the GEAR Icon -> Change Mpeg Settings -> Customize and make the project settings exactly match the source videos properties.

Also check in the burning stage that MF isn't adding any other files to the disk like the project files or whatever, that's under the "I" icon.
