To what refers the message "insufficent memory"

Post by mexida »

I have vs10 plus incl. patch 1, a project with 35 minutes on a pc with w2k, 2 GB memory, Dual Core proc, 200 GB free disk space.

When I try to generate a video file (unimportant which on, avi ,mpeg ...) vs10 crashes after 8% with the message "insufficent memory".

When I carry my project to my friend who has vs10 plus incl. patch 1 on a pc with wxp, 0,5 GB memory, Dual Core proc, 50 GB free disk space vs10 generates all wanted video files.

So what will vs10 tell me with the message "insufficent memory"?

Do not tell me that I need to reinstall vs10. I think everyone who made a 35 minute film knows that during such a project you become world champion in reinstalling vs10.

Again, this is probably caused by a "bad" audio/video file.

I call it "sneaky corruption" when a file seems OK, but is difficult to convert or edit.

I assume the "insufficent memory" error is caused be something like a buffer overflow when Video Studio tries to decode/decompress the video data.... It's expecting some number of bytes, but the actual data exceeds the allocated space? :? ...I'm pretty sure you are not really running out of memory, since Windows normally uses the hard disk for virtual memory whenever you run out of space in RAM.
When I try to generate a video file (unimportant which on, avi ,mpeg) ...
It's usually a problem with the file you are converting from, rather than what format you are converting to. In other words, its usually a decoding porblem, rather than an encoding problem.

You should also check in File > Preferences > General, to see where your working folder is located, and then ensure that it is on a drive which does have sufficient memory.

And I am afraid I have to admit I am far from being a world champion in the reinstall stakes -- and certainly not in the production of 35 minute or any other length videos! In fact the only time I ever tried reinstalling VS10 was to find some transitions which were never installed the first time...
