cannot get past the capture screen

Hi, I just bought DVD MF6 and I cannot get past the screen that shows the captured chapters. I have a DVD of old 8 mm movies that I want to take some parts out of and reburn to send to old friends. When the select a DVD title screen should open, I don't get one, or the screen I get doesn't allow me to change anything. I do capture the video of the old movies and they are asigned to chapters but then I cannot do anything with them. The options are not selectable. I cannot get some of the screens in the instructions to come up so I can follow what to do. This is very frustrating to me, I am not computer literate as most of you are as I read the posts on this site. I am right now downloading the DMF6 full patch 2, do I need this if the software is up todate?? I am only a dialup ISP and it will take over 12 hrs to download. Help. Spud
