I have this music DVD that includes the lyrics as subtitles.
How do I import the individual titles with their corresponding subtitles, as an MPEG?
Or can this only happen if the imported file is an AVI (I know I have played DivX AVI files with multiple audio tracks/subtitles)
If this is so, can DVDMF6+ import as other than an MPEG ?
Import DVD title with subtitles
NOTE - I've never done anything with subtitles, so the following could be all wrong...
I've seen "subtitle ripping" programs on the Net, so you might want to do a search to see what you can find. I have no idea if you can then insert the ripped subtitles into Movie Factory...
You might end-up spending lots of time playing-around with 3rd-party programs, and I sort-of suspect that it might be easier to re-create the subtitles manually. It might seem like a big task, but it's a straight-forward finite task.
On a DVD, subtitles are not stored as regular text. They are "subpictures" (images) multiplexed into the VOB file. But, most DVD authoring programs want you to add the subtitles as text, and the authoring program generates it's own subpictures. This is why it's difficult to "rip" and re-use subtitles.
And just to keep things confusing, Closed Captions for the Hearing Impared are stored as text. Closed captions are turned on & off at the TV... Subtitles are turned on & off at the DVD player. (Closed Captions are not as common as subtitles on DVDs.)

Thanks to both of you for some informative discussion.
I played around and was able to get Nero Recode to import the video stream with the subtitles included. Then I output it as mpeg4. Playing this mp4 with NeroShowtime lets me see the subtitles.
Now if I can export this to mpeg2......

I was just browsing the Corel Knowledge base and stumpled across this relating to VideoStudio but may be of interest to the OP.
Q: Can I combine DVD subtitles with video when I import video from DVD?
A: Yes, when you use the "Import from DVD/DVD-VR" tool, you can now select a subtitle track in the language of your choice, which will be included with your video.
