creating files
Can you explain to me why it takes such a very long time to create files or DVD's I have a short video made up from a number of jpeg files and some video clips from my JVC HDD video camera. The total length of the film is 16 minutes yet it takes nearly 12 hrs before a MPEG file is created. I use a PC with 1 Gb Ram, and an Intel pentim 4 (s.40GHz) CPU. There is plenty of HDD space. I cannot understand why it has to take such a long time. Am I doing something wrong?

How can anyone tell? You have told us nothing except that you are trying to create some sort of mpeg file from some non-specific video clips from your JVC camera, and adding some jpegs. But that is all. You haven't given the format of the JVC clips -- though I suspect they will be one of the JVC-specific formats... You haven't described your work flow.Am I doing something wrong?
Certainly, though, a project that long, using standard mpeg-2 clips (not the JVC .mod or .tod varieties) and some jpegs, should not take much longer than real time to convert on a computer such as you have. And using SmartRender on standard mpeg-2 input files would reduce that time considerably.
So give us a bit more information. Right click on one of your captured files within Video Studio and copy all its Properties here please. Also describe your work flow, any editing you have done, music or additional audio you might have added (and its format). And also tell us which version of Video Studio you are using.

As you probably gathered I am new to video editing. I have indeed used the standard JVC format video files, *.mod.
The images are JPEG files of around 4 MB each. (High kwality pictures.) I use the sound from the video clips and show the video and photgraphs intermittend (the audio from the video is used.
I used the utility ULEAD to separate the video and audio track so I can modify the audio levels as necesary. In addition I added titles using the functions in ULEAD.
I used only the fade in and fade out function for the video clips as well as the photographs. There are no other tools or features used at the moment.
Currently my PC is running another DVD creation (a different PC than the one I am now working on). It has already been running for nearly two hours and has only completed 7%. I guess when I get up in the morning is will be finished. (It is near midnight here)
I use a total of four different tracks to enable me to fade in the different video and photo files correctly. I hope this gives you a bit more to go on.
I also checked some sites for tweaks to improve the performance of my PC but could only find info for Win XP I Use Vista (ultimate) and Ulead 11 plus.
Thanks

Does VS11 'see' the .mod files i.e. can you open them in VS? As you may have guessed from my somewhat acerbic references to proprietary JVC formats, a lot of Everio users have had problems. If you use the search function with '.mod' as the search parameter and Video Studio as the area of search, you will get an idea of what I mean. You might also pick up some possible solutions.
It seems some people. with earlier versions of VS on XP computers were able simple to change the .mod extension to .mpg and proceed from there. Others have had to use a conversion program -- usually capturing and converting with the software which should have come with the camera.
You might also want to Google for a free conversion program called SUPER in case either of the two above methods don't work out for your.

I have had no problem opening de *.mod files. They load fine in VS. With the correct encoder I can use them also to play directly in Window media player or any other media player have used so far. I could try and remake the film with video clips converted tot MPEG2. Do you think this will solve the problem?
