4:3 to 16:9 without resizing picture

Post by omatto »

Hi
How can I change 4:3 movie into for example 720 : 480 without resizing movie from 4:3 to panoramic one. Just make a video to 720 : 576, and cut things that are above or below 480 line. To make more clear what i have just written:
original 1280 : 1024 size

made smaller with parts of the writing cut

This applies to VS10 - I expect VS11 is similar.

Load the program and in the start-up meuu screen ensure that the 16:9 check-box is ticked.

Load your clip on to the time-line

Click on 'Overlay' to open up the over-lay track

Drag your clip on to the over-lay track.

Drag the edges of the clip to fill the screen borders.

The created video will now be 16:9. The image is slightly squashed vertically and stretched horizontally but no part of the image will be missing.

The point is that I want it to be missing :)

Ok.

You cam combine the above with a crop filter applied to the original video before dragging it to the over-lay track.

The amount to crop will depend on just how wide you want the image to be.

But if you do not set the 16:9 attribute at the start (you can change the project setting later) , you could just end up with a 4:3 letter-box image.

Hi

Not sure what you actually want here.

The 1280 x 1024 is the original video clip. Or is it just a still image?
If it¡¦s a video then it¡¦s a very strange size.

You want to make it 720 x 480 , which is standard Ntsc size. Is that correct?

OK

Insert your video clip into the top timeline.
Make sure the File-Project Properties indicate a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Simular to these settings :-
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 6000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

Now click the clip in the timeline to select.
Click the ¡¥Attributes tab¡¦

Tick the ¡¥Distort¡¦ button

Right click the Preview Window
Select ¡¥Fit to Screen¡¦
Try the other options¡XKeep aspect ratio.

If it looks ok then render the video to the project settings.
