Ticking sound in *.mov files

Ticking sound in *.mov files
I am in the middle of putting together a whole bunch of .mov files. When they are played in Quicktime or in VideoStudio (preview) they play fine. When I insert them into the timeline of VideoStudio - i have a ticking sound introduced. This occurs on two separate machines.. I have been unable to resolve it. I have played with power sources around the area etc. All to no avail.... Anyone able to help..? Again it is only these .mov files in the timeline. When they are played in Ulead - whilst they are in the library they are ok..

Problems also with Panasonic .mov files

Patch for MOV files
I'm a bit surprised you didn't suggest that link to me when I posted about a problem encoding .mov files from a Panasonic camera with VS. In fact there were no responses to the post.
Emails to Panasonic have been met with a deafening silence. I'll chalk that up as a C- for them! I'm beginning to wonder if I've stepped in some of the by-products of my pets!
Anyhow, I thought I'd give the patch a try, but I also find that the link is broken.

Sorted!
with regard to my audio problem when trying to edit .mov files from Panasonic digicams, I decided to check the audio codecs on my pc.
----------------------------------------
When I checked the properties of the Ulead ACM MP3 codec I was surprised to see that it was disabled. It was the only codec of all those listed that was disabled.
-----------------------------------------------
When I checked the "Use this audio codec" button, it seems to have solved the problem. I can now successfully edit the .mov files.
Hopefully it won't have any adverse effects on other programs.
Might be worth checking the audio codec settings on your problem pc's.

What happens if you split the audio? Same ticking sound? What if you create an audio file?

In regards to splitting up the audio from the movie. Made no difference. What did make a difference is to convert the *.mov to mpg file types and use these on the timeline (instead) however I have noticed that the quality has been affected (video - jagged) - audio (fine) - & when I try to share out to disc - ULEAD VideoStudio 11+ crashes. To get around this - I had to - Share out to a file - and then use Nero to create the DVD. However I want it all to be in the one programme to recognise the chapters etc.
2 Dogs - In regards to the codec - as you have detailed below - the same has occured on my machine - I enabled it - as you have specified - re-booted my machine - it made little difference - when they were placed on the timeline and played. Like I said - they play ok - when they are in the library and previewed - but not on the timeline. Thanks for your help..!!!
I am still waiting to see if?
- the ftp site is corrected
- if 11.5+ will resolve the issue.

Re: Problems also with Panasonic .mov files
Sorry - I look at as many posts as I can but cannot view them all2Dogs wrote:...I'm a bit surprised you didn't suggest that link to me when I posted about a problem encoding .mov files from a Panasonic camera with VS. In fact there were no responses to the post....
The link was 'dead' once before and I sent Corel an email for it to be re-activated. I shall send them another.
I have also updated the link I gave above to point to this thread so that others can view your possible solution.
Thank you.
Workflow
Hi konmanos,
re-reading your original post, I suppose you did try creating an mpeg-2 file from your whole project. You reported the ticking sound when playing the .mov files within the project, with the mov files in the timeline, but was the sound also evident in an mpeg-2 file created from the project?
Your ultimate aim is to create a DVD, so if you were able to make an mpeg-2 file at the appropriate settings, it could be smart rendered in the create disc step in the normal "Recommended Procedure" manner.
You were at least partially successful in transcoding the clips to mpeg-2 - but report that the project with those mpeg-2 clips in it crashed when trying to output to DVD. Perhaps you'd have more success with a single mpeg-2 file of the whole project.
In order to rule out factors concerned with the burning module, you might also try to output to DVD folders or an ISO file for later burning.
Good luck!
P.S. Steve - I do realise the long arm of the law can't be everywhere, even though you have more posts than Ken Berry!

So take the original clip and mute the audio. Now take the mpeg clip and split the audio, keeping the audio and deleting the video. Now you have the good video from the mov and the good audio from the mpeg. What did make a difference is to convert the *.mov to mpg file types and use these on the timeline (instead) however I have noticed that the quality has been affected (video - jagged) - audio (fine)

2 dogs - in answering your question - I converted the mov to mpg and - YES - the ticking sound disappeared altogether - however the video quality - not sound quality - had changed.
However I will try and use the vio patch to the mov files and see if this makes a difference & report back.
