Strange Color Bars

Post by dazzler »

Hi,
I used VS9 to capture video and still photos of a bunch of anchored sailboats from my camcorder and noticed numerous alternating blue and yellow color bars appearing from top to bottom of each mast. Similar bars appeared at the edges of a white building I taped. The bars also appear when playing the video or photos (without capturing), as well as in the LCD screen of the camcorder. The camera had a polaroid filter on it at the time.

These videos/photos were taken with the sun behind me with good illumination in mid to later afternoon, but the color bars make them unusable. Has anyone seen anything like this or have an explanation that can help me avoid this problem?

2. Another issue when I'm videotaping is that sometimes the sky has a big bright splatch of blue and white. Also sometimes the trees seen against the sky have a noticeable blue halo around them.

Do you think my camcorder is having problems or is it maybe just the way I'm using it?

Regards,
Dazzler

It sounds like a camcorder problem. You don't say what kind you have, or if it has manual or just automatic controls. Also, do you have these same issues without the lens filter?

It also sounds like it might possibly be a problem where the camcorder heads need demagnetizing. This can occur after frequent use. The tapes which are magnetic rub along the tape heads in one direction and cause them to become magnetised in a similar way to grabbing a magnet and rubbing it several times in one direction along a pin. - Eventually the pin becomes a magnet itself.
