I fear I'm a latecomer to this party. I have a K-World V-Stream 2800 USB capture device, and UVS 11+ tells me that the device is in use, no matter what conditions prevail when I attempt to capture from it. Fortunately, I'm still able to access it under MovieFactory 4 and the handful of other video apps I have.
I registered a request for assistance with this one directly with Corel and the troubleshoot thread is still there, closed. They told me to update my drivers, update DirectX, and reinstall the app. Nothing worked. I changed systems and was unable to follow-up with them, so they closed it out. But I would appreciate them taking the K-World USB device into consideration on any and all new products.

I don't know your device, and in fact have never heard of it. However, it is possible that the manufacturers of it are like a lot of other hardware companies who refuse to share their technological secrets with software companies like Ulead/Corel. They want to keep their devices absolutely proprietary, and so will usually provide with the device a software package which they either manufacture themselves, or third party software which they tweak to work with their devices. The problem with this, of course, is that only that tweaked version will work, and not subsequent versions which are issued by the software company that makes them...
So I am afraid it may not be a question of Corel/Ulead taking Mycroft into account in future versions, but Mycroft loosening up their policies.
Did any software package come with the device? If so, we usually recommend you use that to capture, then open the captured files in Video Studio for editing...

Guess I made too much of myself here and not enough of the manufacturer. I'm mycroft...mycroft69, if you will. The manufacturer of the device is K-World.

Here's the actual device to which I refer:

Mine is a slightly older version of this item. It did come with software, but I find it's not as capable, nor does it capture as high a resolution, as Ulead products.
Which is why I added that MovieFactory 4 still is good to me. But if future versions of VideoStudio and MovieFactory will not support this device, I may be forced to turn to a competitor.
By the way, my real name is Ken.

Apparently VS11 cannot capture analog video at all! I think this is supposed to be fixed with VS11.5 (due out in about a week). But like Ken Berry said, sometimes capture software and capture hardware just don't "play well together". So, you never know 'till you try.
The quality/resolution should be determined by the capture device. The device probably has it's own built-in hardware MPEG encoder. USB-2 is not quite fast enough for DV or uncompressed video, and the low system requirements (800MHz) for the kWorld device, also lead me to believe the computer is being feed pre-compressed data.It did come with software, but I find it's not as capable, nor does it capture as high a resolution, as Ulead products.
Of course you can keep MF4 on your computer, and use it for capture, and maybe for DVD authoring. (I use 3 different programs for capture, editing, and DVD authoring/burning.)Which is why I added that MovieFactory 4 still is good to me.

Doug,
Using VS11+ trial I captured analog video from my Hauppauge PVR150 better then an other previous releases of VS. They even had customized templates ready to go (pre-programmed) for the PVR-150. It worked very good under windows XP, never tried Vista with the Hauppauge.
My HighDef Cam under XP worked without a problem under XP & VS11+ Trial.
It's probably impossible to program a capture program for every device on the market. If the capture device writes proper device drivers for the DirectX Interface then yes, but most of these devices are using proprietory chipsets.

Just to give you a view of what I ran into on my old system and then on my new system, here's a screen capture:

The drivers are installed correctly, I have gotten the latest updates, Windows has the latest updates, and I have the latest version of DirectX. Nothing I do will allow me to capture from this device in VS11+, but I have no problem with any other app, including MF4 and VS9.
