Transitions not "greenscreening"

Post by Vicki »

Hi all-
I may be a little slow, but I just realized that many of the fancier transitions, ie page peel, etc. show the green chroma key screen instead of the previous clip A transitioning into clip B. Is this fixable, is it a known problem, or is it just me?

I noticed it when I had a video instead of a photo as clip A and it worked, ie the clip A curled into clip B nstead of showing bright green.

Thanks, I appreciate any input.

Vicki

I suspect it may just be you. I personally at least can say that I have not seen this particular complaint before in the more than 5 years I have been active on this Board... Hopefully others will correct me if I am wrong.

Not sure what to suggest either... Do you happen to have applied the Chroma key filter to the video clips on either end of the transition(s) which is misbehaving?

green transitions

Post by Vicki »

Thanks, Ken,
I noticed it worked ok with a video clip first, then transition, then photo or video. It does not work with a photo before the transition, so I change the color so the bright green underside is not so obnoxious.

I'll have to check my earlier projects, but I don't think it ever really worked right for me. There is no chroma keying or overlays involved there. There is a customizable option to change the color of the underside, so maybe it's not supposed to pick up the photo?

It's not a major problem. I've been pretty lucky with the major issues.

Hmmmm... anyway, maybe I'll be upgrading when VS11.5 comes out.... :?

Thanks again,
Vicki

Green Transitions

I have never seen the page curl transitions that you mentioned, work as you want them to. In every instance, photo,or video clip, mine always show a green underside, both in VS9,10, and VS11.
If you use the VideoFX filters/page curl, these do work as you want them to, on the page curl you do see the the feature you want. Video clips and photos.

What you are seeing is normal for "Peel Transitions" It is not a chroma key effect but is in fact the reverse side of the picture.

Think of the picture as being a page in a book.
You are looking at the picture on the page and fold the page over to look at the one underneath.

The reverse side of your folded page is a solid colour - green, as the page curls it reveals that solid colour.

Just a little addition to sjj1805's comment. You can change the green color to other colors of your choice if the green is not to your liking

Sorry, I am obviously missing something here. I have never seen the effect the is obviously common to others. I was thinking of transitions which clearly fade out the previous clip and fade in the new one. But I confess I have not used a huge variety and tend to stick to much the same ones most of the time.

I have not used these transitions for a long time. I don't use VS either, sorry.

In MSP however, you can select whether you want the colored underside or the next clip. These are distinct versions of that transition, if I remember correctly.

Just like Heinz says, you can change the color of the transitions "underside", Just click the "color" square, but, you need to be in storyboard mode to see it. Just highlight the transition from there..

transitions

Post by Vicki »

Thanks to all for responding. I've had this program for a year now and am still always learning something new.

I found what I need in the "film" transitions collection (Rascal, is that what you were referring to by "video fx"?). Can't believe I overlooked it. They are similar to the "peel" collection, except that the previous video or photo shows on the underside as it peels away for a nice effect.

If I got more sleep instead of working on videos, I may be a little sharper. Thanks!
