wrong size on tv

The problem is that when i play the dvd on my TV, the image is larger than it should be so it cuts the bottom away.

I have tried every setting on dvd and the lcd tv(42 inch)

I have tried both 16:9 and 4:3

What you see there is the so called TV overscan. Around 10 to 15% of the source frame is not displayed by the TV. There is nothing you can do about that by means of settings. It's just the way it is.
