Burned DVD does not start with menu

Post by Harry1966 »

I am trying to burn a Video DVD consisting, consisting of 1 movie, and 1 slideshow. I select the option "Create menu", and choose a simple menu which allows the user to play the movie or start the slideshow. No problem so far. But when I burn the DVD and try to play the DVD on a standalone DVD-player, it always starts playing with the first track (the movie). It doesn't start with the menu. When I press "menu" on my DVD-player, it will run the menu correctly. However, I would like the DVD to start playing the menu first.

By the way, in "Project Settings", the option "Play all clips first before menu" is NOT selected! Am I forgetting something? Is this a program error? Or is Moviefactory not able to make DVD's starting with the menu?

On the first screen in MF (BTW, which version do you use?) there is a selection "Use first clip as introductory video". If that is selected, your DVD will play the first clip on the time line before it displays the menu.

I am using MovieFactory 6 with patch 2 (that's 6.10.0194.3).

I have not selected "Use first clip as introductory video". However when I use that option, the first track is indeed played first, after which the menu starts. While testing that I found out that, also without that option, the first track starts to play first after which the menu appears. However, there is a difference. This time both tracks appear as thumbnails in the menu. (This is normal, but I just want the menu to appear before the first track.)

In short: I have tried (almost) everything, but I don't seem to be able to create a DVD that starts the menu first upon playback. Could it be that it makes a difference if you burn to DVD-/+RW instead of -/+R?
Is this a well-known problem? I haven't been able to find anyone on this forum with the same problem...

EDIT: I have done some more tests with different tracks and different menu's. And everytime that I play the DVDs on my standalone DVD player, it begins with playing track 1, and only after that plays the menu.

Just a small update:
I have tried to play the DVD in 2 other standalone DVD players. Plus, I have tried to play it on my PC using PowerDVD. And in all these cases, the DVD starts correctly with the menu. So it seems that the problem is with my own standalone DVD player. Which is quite strange since it is pretty new.

It's probably a feature in your setup menu of the dvd player whether to play the video directly or play the movie.
I think the reason for this is to bypass all the previews that are on some dvd movies, the ones that have to all play first before you can get to the main movie menu.
I would check the dvd players setup preferences.
