Album Transitions

Post by Rascal »

A friend has approached me asking if I can help her with a problem with Album Transitions. I, in the past have had problems with Album Transitions not being available, but thankfully I no longer have a problem. I was telling her about my problem when she told me that she has a problem with Album Transitions ie. they never have worked. If she enters one of the album transitions and runs the project, the album transition never runs. The preview screen just shows a cut. On my suggestion she has reinstalled Ulead complete with Extra's and Bonus disc, and it was still the same. All the other transitions work correctly. Anyone got any suggestions that I can send to her?
She is running Winxp SP2, Ulead Video Studio 11+, she has recently updated Direct X and she has all the Windows Updates.

Hi Rascal

I have no good news regarding the Album transitions.

The playback and preview was so slow that it was difficult to edit the timeline.
Rendering of the transition was ridiculously slow.

I just stopped using them, a bit sad, as they do look very good.

From your question it does not seem that anything has improved with the later versions of VS

Sorry

album transitions

Hi Rascal-
I used the included album transitions with no problem in VS10+... in the last video I used them about 4-5 times to move on to different chapters in someone's life.

If you can't get them to work for you, I did see that Adorage has some nice album transitions in one of their transition packages.

Don't know if it is worth it to you to purchase the package. I did download the demo which has a number of cool effects (many without the demo stamp)

Good luck.

I am using album transitions with no problems in VS11+ running on XP pro SP2. On my old machine, an Athlon X2, preview was so choppy, I would see only 1 or 2 frames. On my latest machine, a Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz, preview is as smooth as rendered video.

As Rascal will readily see, the Album transitions have been the cause of many a complaint. I was another user who did not seem to have them at all in my version of VS10+. But they suddenly appeared when I had to reformat my hard disk, reinstall XP and then also reinstall VS10+.

Prior to that, though, with VS9 and (I think) VS8, I had found they would never preview properly. Usually the first time I tried to preview them, I might get the first page flip to work, but whether subsequent ones would work was always hit or miss. Sometimes, well into editing and after many previews, I too would only get the indication that something was there but the preview would hurry on to the actual video without showing even a still view of the Album page. I tried anything I could think of, including restarting the program and even rebooting the computer. But the problem persisted.

In the end, by chance, it took the whole process right to the end, and 'burned' a DVD folder of the project. When I played it back on a software DVD player, surprise surprise!! The Album transitions were all actually there and working flawlessly.

In other words, the basic lesson was that you need a pretty powerful computer to be able to preview them on the fly. But they will usually be properly rendered in the slower encoding process.

Thank you all for the replies and helpfjul information. I will pass on to her your suggestions.
I have suggested that she tries a quick project using the album transitions, then compiles a video file. Just to see if it is only a glitch when viewing the preview screen. I have never seen the problem she has got discussed on this forum, there have been other compaints but I cannot recall seeing a post where the Album transitions are there, but will not work when applied.
I will let you know if she is successful.
