De-Install VS7SE & VS8

Post by Rich2Putt »

I tried to remove from the control panal (windows XP) VS7 SE and/or VS8. I keep getting an error message.

The only way I could re-install VS8 was to "delete" the files in VS7 SE & VS8.

Has anyone else had issues de-installing VS software?

Thanks.........

Without the error message it's hard to decipher what the problem could be. There's a few reasons why an pllication won't unistall properly.

FYI, deleting the folders doesn't uninstall but just removes the content freeing up space. It will still be in the registry and elsehwere on your machine. Doing this with VS shouldn't be an issue but can pose problems with other applications.

Since I started working with VS software (14 months) I have yet to de-insatall VS from my pc without an error message. I always had to "delete" rather then de-install.

I am currently at work, when I turn on my pc this eveing I will jot down what the message it states.

I am expecting VS9 to arrive in my mail box later this week and I would like to start fresh.

As always, thanks for responding.

Most likely you have a corrupt registry entry or something along those lines from a botched install or uninstall. Personally I would just leave it alone unless your having troubles. You can try this MS tool to fix it.

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_d ... 666,00.asp

BEFORE you run it, click start>run ..... type regedit and click OK. Got to file>export then save it to your HD and preferably a floppy od CD too. Make sure the select range option is all.

If your PC developes issues after running regclean you can use the import function to restore the registry with the file you exported. It shouldn't though.

Personally I do a complete restore on my OS drive about once a year. Probably not neccesary but it was with 98 and previous windows versions where it was about once every 6 months.

There are instructions on how to manually uninstall UVS 8 in the Technical FAQ: http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs80faq.htm
