HDV VS11+ Capture - unable to 'Split by Scene'.
In attempting to to Capture HDV with a Canon HV20 camcorder in VS11+ the 'Split by Scene' box is greyed-out and consequently the entire sequence is recorded. I have searched the Forum, without success, for anybody encountering the same problem. All other aspects of capture through to recording are successful. Can anybody help, please ?. Delcole. Athlon 64 dual-core 4800 AM2. 80+250GB Hard discs. 2GB RAM. Graphics Card 256MB PCI Express.

HDVSplit - XP or Vista
http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm
The captured videos will have a .m2t extension.
It will capture in the Transport Stream Format. VS captures in the Program Stream Format.
When I used VS11+ trial it didn't read the the TS files fielding correctly, so if the video looks jumpy/jerky it's because VS is reading the file as frame-based when it's actually UFF (upper field first).
This should be addressed in the VS11+ patch soon to be released.
After you insert the videos captured from HDVSplit if you look at the Properties of the captured video from HDVSplit & there isn't any fielding displayed I wouldn't use the video in VS11+ because it's not reading it properly, works sometimes & sometimes didn't read the fielding correctly.
VS10+ with the latest patches will convert the TS to PS for editing, VS10+ works with the files captured using HDVSplit, so does MF6+ with patch# 2 installed. Don't use the trial of MF6+, you need the retail version in order to install patch# 2 which fixed many issues. MF6+ now works nice with the files captured from HDVSPlit.
HDVSplit also uses very low cpu usage, preview the video on your lcd on the cam, you don't need to install that directshow filter to preview on the computer, it's not necessary to load it.
Just run HDVSplit from any directory & capture direct to the harddsik. It's basically a file copy process and will split the videos by time/date..

Many thanks indeed, etech6355, for the wealth of information regarding a solution to the lack of HDV 'scene splitting' in VS11+. Its good to note that a patch will soon be released which will address the subject and which I think should have been resolved originally. Again, many thanks for your help. With very best wishes, Delcole.

After much experimenting and failure I have now been able to transfer High Def Video from VideoStudio 11.5.0157.2 plus to the Canon HV20 HD camcorder via Firewire,
Go to 'Share' - 'Create Video File' - AVCHD H.264 (1920 x 1080, 25.00 fps) - The project is now rendered (lengthy process) - The Clip now appears in the Library - Highlight the clip - Go to 'HDV Recording' - HDV 1080i, 50i (Transport Stream) - (60i for NTSC ?) - 'Save' the file which is now rendered for output - Go to 'HDV Recording' - Preview Window - 'Next' - press the red button - The message now appears 'The video is recording to the HDV camcorder' - Press 'Finish' and your project is recorded to HD tape. With very best wishes, Delcole.
