Cannot delete image

Post by girly »

I have 2 Photo Impact images which I want to delete. They were created with PI12 and my O/S is Vista Home Premium. When I try to delete I get the message box saying calculating time but it never ends. I also cannot rename them as the system stops responding.

Any help please.

It sometimes happens that the computer locks a file for no apparant reason. Try restarting your computer and see if they will delete then.

Find the pictures in Windows explorer right click and select [Properties]
then the [Security] tab and check the permissions you have, edit if necessary.

If this still fails then try
1. Temporarily turning off UAC (User Account Control)
and / or
2. Restarting the computer in 'Safe Mode.'

Thanks for your suggestions. I have managed to delete one in safemode
but the other (205kb) won't budge. I left it running in safemode but the calculating time box just runs and runs and gets no where. Maybe I'm stuck with it.

Again open Windows Explorer and go the directory containing the stubborn file. Right click the directory and select properties, security tab.
Now set the permissions to Deny for all entries in the list.

Restart the computer.

Return to the above directory and now alter the security settings to full control for all listed users. Now try deleting again.

I haven't given up yet!
There are a few more things we can try.
Let us next check to see if you have any hard drive errors.
1. click the Windows Start button
2. Run
3. chkdsk c: /f

(If the file is not on your "C" drive then replace c with the appropriate drive letter example chkdsk d: /f )

4. Restart the computer.
5. Wait until it completes the disk checking process and returns you to your normal Windows Desktop.
6. Try to delete again.

No prob with check disc, there shouldn't be as I've only had this computer a matter of weeks. Still no luck. I like the look of Vista but there's a lot of negatives such as this problem. I thank you again for your continuing help

Vista! - sorry missed that even though it is in your first post - I was looking at
this
Please click here --> Image

Right... try this next.
Start | Control Panel | User Accounts | Turn User Account Control OFF
Restart the computer and try deleting again.

Remember to turn User Account Control back ON again when you have finished.

Do you know how to navigate your computer from a command prompt?
Start | Run | cmd
If so then for the following you will need to restart your computer with a Vista Setup DVD in your DVD drive.

Your computer BIOS might also need to be changed so that it will firstly boot from a CD/DVD rather than your hard drive. To access the BIOS when your computer first starts you will see a message like Press f2 to enter setup. - the key concerned will vary from one computer to another, you might for example see Press DEL to enter setup.

Restart the computer and boot from the Vista DVD. When you reach the screen asking if you would like to install Vista you will see an option
[Repair your computer]
Select the repair option.
You will next see a screen [System Recovery options}
Here you have two choices:
[Repair and Restart] -- [No]

Choose [No].
On the next screen that appears choose [Next]
you will then see a screen containing a menu with several options.
Select [Command Prompt]

From this point it is just like having started Vista normally and selecting
Start | Run | cmd

Try navigating to the picture again and see if you can delete it now.

I think this is a lost cause as the image won't go away.
