I have been using VS9 (with the 5in1 patch) fairly extensively for a couple of years, during which I have learned to deal with program crashes by saving my project frequently. A few weeks ago a new problem has cropped up. The program suddenly closes. Unlike the crash syndrome (or the "not running" stall) that results in disk activity saving info and then the message asking if I want to send the info to Microsoft, VS simply closes. There is no disk activity, and when I reload VS, there is no message asking if I want to retrieve the previous project - in short, VS does not know that it aborted. I've not been able to discern any pattern to these aborts - they are triggered by clicking on various commands, but it has happened with just about any click. I'm using Windows XP, and my equipment configuration has not changed. I do have Windows auto update turned on.
Any suggestions? I'm contemplating a reinstall of VS, but am concerned about any unintended consequences. If I do, are there any patches more recent then the UVS9Full_Patch1_5in1 file dated 8/30/05?

It is possible that one of the Windows auto updates has affected your system. Are you able to use System Restore to go back to a point before this problem occured?
