Can Video Studio capture from a Sony DCRSR42E camera?

Post by matt.ludlow »

I'm using VS 10+ and thinking of buying a Sony DCRSR42E video camera.

Can VS 10+ or VS 11+ capture video from the Sony DCRSR42E camera via the USB cable, either attached to the camera docking station or attached directly to the camera?

Thanks
Matt

It's a hard disc drive cam that records MPEG2 files on to the hard drive of the cam. As such there is no "capture" process. All you do is transfer the MPEGs from the hard drive of the cam to your computer hard drive via USB so there is no real compatibility problem. Most likely Windows will recognise the cam as an external drive and you would drag the files across then link in VS for editing.

Great, thanks

I've never used a HDD camera before. I was not sure how the manufacturer had setup getting access to the video for editing.
