So I bought MF6+, and have been tearing my hair out ever since. Spec of my machine at end of post.
Using Vista Ultimate 32-bit, and recorded lots of TV. Sick of Windows Movie Maker & Windows DVD Maker making a mess of things, so went for something a little more puissant.
When I run MF6, and try to import a dvr-ms file, it tells me it isnt indexed. It then asks if I would like to index the file? So I say yes. Sometimes "computer says no" straight away. Sometimes it will start the process, take forever, and whilst the green bar will eventually fill, it will never go away. Looking in the:
User\documents\ulead dvd movie factory\6.0\dmf_TEMP\VIO_TMP directory, I will see the filename appear appended with a .mpg extension appear. This will grow in size, and then stop all of a sudden, long before the processing is finished. In general, it will always get stuck at the same point for a given movie.
What gives? Anyone else had this? It strikes me that for a program sold as "Vista ready" with "dvr-ms file compatibilty" there's a few porkies being told.
I'd appreciate any insight!
Many thanks,
Dave

DVR-MS & Indexing in Vista
I've read other posts about people having trouble with DVR-MS, but I don't know if those problems were with VS11, or with earlier versions. If you search the forum for "DVR-MS", you should get some hits, and maybe even find something useful... You'll probably also find some comments from me about "compressed files".
In general, the more compressed the format, the more likely you are to have trouble. There are many variations of each format, as well as quality variations... For example, many people have trouble with their DivX files, but some DivX users don't. I assume some DVRs generate "good" DVR-MS files that the Corel programs can handle...
You can try converting the file to MPEG-2 with SUPER (FREE!!!) or SVCD 2 DVD MPG (FREE!!!). If you are making a DVD, Movie Factory would have to convert it to MPEG-2 anyway.
However, if you are planning to edit the file, MPEG-2 can sometimes be "difficult" to edit too... The only foolproof file format seems to be AVI/DV (less compressed at 13GB per hour).

having a simular problem as the original poster here... i'm trying to edit and burn recorded tv from windows media center. files are in DVR-ms format. i bought ulead moviefactory 6 because it was the only one i could find that said it would import dvr-ms files.
when i try to import one of the recordings, it pops up saying that:
"The file (blah blah blah) cannot be edited. do you want to run a pre-process to make it editable?"
when you click yes it comes up with an error saying:
"file is uneditable. file is not indexed."
can someone please help? i was unable to find anything using the search function.
