Only a bit adds to the timeline

Can you please help me out I'm having this picture show..and then I have this interview that needs to run in the background. It's 56 minutes but everytime I load the audio in the program or put it in the timeline it only runs 58 seconds and then stops. It's on mp3 format. I've tried adding other mp3s and they work full length. Do you have any idea how to fix this?
I tried loading the interview in windows movie maker and it works just fine there :? but I wasn't going to edit the video there.

You may or may not know that there are a variety of codecs used to produce what is generically called .mp3 format. Not all of them used standardised algorithms. Video Studio has difficulty with certain of these codecs, and one in particular seems to be the LameMP3 codec.

We generally advise people having trouble with mp3 files to convert them to standard .wav files and use those instead. Sounds as though it might be the way to go in your case as well...
