Thank you for your vote of confidence Lance, now all I need to do it stop you from spelling my name in that awful Scottish way, as I am Welsh
There is also Yousendit, http://www.yousendit.com/ which a few of my clients use.
Or, if you have some personal, or other, webspace upload the short file to that.

Graham,
Sorry about that, I am, as you can see geographically challenged. I shall proceed immediatley to the back garden and fall on a sword. Some may see that as extreme but I understand the magnitude of even suggesting to a Welshman any hint of Scottishnessness.
Ya think this is a good time for a couple of leek references or should I just pack it in at this point.

OK, we can do that but I wonder if it is at all necessary.
I just edited my first clip by trimming start and end and cutting out some advertisements. The resultant DVD gets progressively OOS but the picture quality is great.
Which file do you want me to upload? The originally transferred file or after it is converted to mpeg2 by means of the supplied USB browser program?
I won't upload the just failed file because it is 1.5 GB in its RAW form and only slightly smaller in its mpeg2 version.
I will pm the link to it when I have uploaded it.

Initially not but after changing the settings of my PVR from DolbyDigital to mpeg audio, yes. How else would I know it's OOSskier-hughes wrote:Let's go for both if you can.
Just a recap,
Do you get audio from the file out of the usb broswer programme?
I'll let you have the links once I uploaded the files.
Thanks for your support

Well guys, had been side tracked for a while on this. Also tried to return the darn thing and get my money back
Fat chance for that to happen.
The device started to play up with flickering and digital noise in the video, even from files which were ok before. They wouldn't give me my money back but offered a replacement. If that were to be faulty also, the offered to refund the money then.
Took a week to get the replacement and then I was rather busy with overseas visitors from several of our suppliers.
To cut a long story short, I finally installed it all again and did some trials.
The picture quality is just superb but even the slightest bit of editing gives me progressive OOS. I did a test with a half hour documentary, outstanding because there is no footage present which would show any OOS.
Another test with a 1 hour show, after editing the adverts out, is progressively OOS, so bad even that I won't even think about doing anything like that in future.
I haven't yet tried to burn the uncut file to DVD and see what happens. Will do that sometime tonight though.
I'll let you know how that goes.

Just noticed something funny. As I said already, the half hour documentary came out just fine. The 1 hour show, split into 3 segments when downloading to the PC, has very distinct OOS issues.
Both programs, as far as I can tell now, where downloaded using the same procedure and connection.
Looking at the converted mpeg files, G-spot has this to say:

Something is fishy because of the differences in file properties.
Any ideas anyone?
I'll burn the show to DVD now without any editing. I'll let you know.

When I realized the distinctly different file formats, I decided to revisit my previous test burns.
I had a close look at the two DVD's. The short project has no discernible OOS at all. I really had a good look but noises etc. seem to be at the right location, no OOS.
The larger project is almost immediately OOS and only gets worse over time.
Really interesting stuff

Now I completed a DVD burn with the three source mpeg2 files for the TV show, without any editing, in DVD MF 5+.
All three files were placed on the time line, "Do not convert compliant" checked, simple menu added (3 chapters) and burned to ISO image. Used NERO to burn the ISO image to a DVD-RW disk.
If there is any OOS, it is minute and only at the end of each chapter.
Hmm..., back to the drawing board.
