Sound problem

I'm wondering if anyone can help. I've just purchased a new laptop and tried to install video studio 9 but when I try and play my projects from files I've saved it says

"Failed to use Direct Show engine. Cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is avalible, or the hardware is not responding.

[13102:2:4]

I'm guessing its something to do with Windows Vista as it worked perfectly before.

all the other things work and sound works if I play clips seperatley just not as a project.

I've tried reinstalling it 3 times. Any other ideas??

VS9 was not rated to run under Vista.
VS10 can with a patch and VS11 is the first edition to be purpose built for Vista.
