Burning on DVD Quality problem

Post by brocot »

The files are recorded with HAUPAGE Tv card.
Edited with VIDEO Studio 11. No problem. Sometimes the quality is poor once it is burned on DVD RW. The image is showing rectangular dots on the screen while looking on TV screen (not always) Is it the media ?
Last i used TDK DVD-RW at 1x speed burning with the Plextor PX-760Sa.
I always finish the project bi for burning. I tried to create the ISO and then burned with NERO, the same problem.

The rectangular blocks may be what is called macro blocking. Usually because the files have been compressed way too much.
First check the capture properties of the files youo originally had. Right click while in VS and post the properties here.
Also what were the Project properties that you used to create the DVD.
These are the first thing to eliminate.
Next, you may also be having plyback problems because the DVD player does ont particularly like RW discs. Try the one that give you trouble on another player and see if the problem persists.

The files recorded with WinTv

PAL DVD
MPEG-2 Upperfield Firt
720 x 576
3800 Kbps (Constant)

The settings for the project in Video studio are the same.
So it fits on the DVD. (after cutting out the Pub)

That bitrate is very low and I would imagine that at that rate you may start to get artifacts being introduced into the final product. Is it possible for you to capture and higher bitrates?
Also did you burn at that bitrate or lower?
Did you check the RW on another player?

The DVD is showing the same problem on the DVD in the computer. I will burn now on DVD-r (not the RW)

Yes i can record on higher bit rate. Is it not better to record with bit rate setting that not have to be changed in the project, so it fits on the DVD without more compression ? The result is not always bad. Normally, the quality is good, better then tape recordings.

If you insist on using such low bitrates in order to fit the video to one DVD, poor quality cannot be avoided. Because you have a low bitrate source file to edit and need to re-render that to get a new file after editing, your quality loss is compounding.

It's much better to start with as high a bitrate as possible, do your editing and then create a new DVD compliant mpeg2 file at a suitable bitrate to fit the blank DVD.

The same project, burned on DVD-R (sony) is ok.
I can set the recordings with the TV pci card on DVD standard play 6800 Bit rate (Constant) But that wont fit on the DVD. Of course, i can render after cutting out the publicity. At last i create the disk with the menu, and i use the same settings. (?)
