1) Can we add our own text boxes to a chosen template? (I know you can move elementsaroiund to change their position and even hide them by changing their transparency to 99%)
2) Can we choose which 20 seconds (or more) of video we wish to show in the thubmail video of a top menu?
3) Is there an option to tile a background (such as a gif texture) chosen by me or is it always at stretch or original size?

Nope - but the more clips the project has, the more text boxes become available.1) Can we add our own text boxes to a chosen template?
Supposedly, the motion menu's clip can be altered. See page 113 of the manual. I have not been able to get it to work though2) Can we choose which 20 seconds (or more) of video we wish to show in the thumbnail video of a top menu?
3) Is there an option to tile a background (such as a gif texture) chosen by me or is it always at stretch or original size?
Nope - why not create your own tiled-image using an image editor, and then import it ?

Re (2): you put your clip in the burning timeline. The first frame should appear in the preview window. Pull the jog bar below the preview window to the right and place it where you want the thumbnail image to start playing. Then go back down to the video in the burning timeline and right click on it, and you will see a command 'Change Thumbnail'. Click that. Then when you move on to edit the menu template, the image that appears in the thumbnail menu button should be the frame you chose, and it should play from there for up to 30 seconds (maximum possible) or a lesser time chosen by you.
