Another answer to the repeating VideoStudio crashes problem

Post by bob733 »

My VideoStudio crashes more than your VideoStudio. ha ha ha ... wait a minute that is not so funny. I believe it has to do with mfc80.dll. But in the meantime, here is how I get around it.

I let the "...has encounterd an error and has to close..." message come up and simply drag it off to the side. I then save my work. Then I go merrily on my way (saving every few modifications). If another error message comes up, I put it next to the first.

I have had 3 of these damn things up there and continued working (saving frequently of course).

It works....even though the programs doesnt.

That .dll file you mentioned is not even a Corel/Ulead one -- it is a 2005 Visual Basic file from Microsoft. And as far as I can see, it is not related to Video Studio, though it certain *is* related to Microsoft's Visual Studio (quite a different program...) :?:

I've been getting a few of these tonight... at first I thought it was a corrupted .wav file as it was always on the one spot of the time lime that it would crash.

Ended up not being the .wav file and now it's a bit of a mystery why this is happening.

This topic has come up before and I also recommended just moving the offending warning box off to the side and continue working. However, that does not work for me anymore - I can no longer just move the box - I have to click Ok or whatever and VS closes. Thankfully these "crashes" are few and far between, but annoying none-the-less.

Crash, crash, crash

Post by Rich2Putt »

I'm in my 4th yr using VS. I currently have VS10+.

Since I installed VS10+ last May , it's been nothing but problems. About 10 mins into a project, VS shuts down. I re-open VS & make an adjustment to the pan & zoom & BANG VS disappears from the screen....NO WARNING.

My project can be either be all photo's or a mixture of photos & video, same crashes happen.

I am very, very disappointed...........I created numerous videos in the past & nothing has happened as bad as this. Am I frustrated? you bet. I really don't want to learn a new editing software, but I am at the end of my rope with VS.

I am waiting for the 2008 upgrade & will give it one more try........If the 2008 upgrade continues to crash, it'll be good-bye VS.

Rich, why wait for a 2008 update when there is v11. Have you tried that?

@Rich I presume you've also followed Ken Berry's advice (in other threads) and made sure to install the latest DirectX 9.0c update.

I haven't upgraded because I most if not all of the VS 11 upgrades were things I didn't need or used.

I don't expect to create any HD video's for the next couple of years. There are no HD burners, only 15mins of HD on a regular single sided DVD disk etc.......

If upgrades are introduced like prior years, we should see one in a few months.

Except that it might have cured your particular problem.

If VS10+ is giving problems then VS11+ would most likely have problems.
Obviously there is something not working correctly.
VS10+ should work with all of it's updates installed.

My VS10 either crashs or just goes away also

Post by WLStinson »

This has happened to me since version 8. One thinng I found is if I import a lot of video the library get a lot of items in it and that is when it starts to crash. I can delete items from that library and the crash stop.

My 2cents worth. Very upsetting and like one other person said I dont want to have to learn another program but I am fed up.

Interesting! I didn't know that! I've been having increasing crashes lately, and I didn't think it would be because there are more items in my library.

I have two items with a big X through them. If I click on them, VS10+ immediately crashes. These are apparently files that I have deleted from Windows, outside of VS10+.

I have no idea how to delete them from the VS10+ library.

I went looking for them by filename in the Windows registry, but I couldn't find them.

Every program has its kinks.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know (sorry, Devil :)).

Besides, where else can you get the kind of help I've found in this forum?

I can't remember one problem I've had that wasn't helpfully addressed by someone in here, even if there was no solution, and I've had a few of those.

Another user of VS10+ here. Nothing more frustrating than to have the program just shut down on you without any warning. I'm convinced that it's related to very large projects with a lot of video elements and the way VS10+ saves its projects to disc. I know enough to do a lot of saves during a project and to avoid clicking certain functions. But that's silly for something that's a version 10 product. I'm skipping VS11, but will consider VS12 when it comes out.

For the purpose of relativity what here are we suggesting is a large library.

I have about 6 libraries with about 50 clips each. Is that considered large?

Using v10+. Just was working on a project. Six video clips, three color clips, three titles - total duration of 30 seconds. In Project mode I pressed play...and it hung and eventually crashed. So much for the large project or large library hypothesis.
