Help - how do you get the original recording date?

Post by phxkara »

I've been capturing video off my Sony Camcorder for awhile, but have never found a way to get the date when the video was originally recorded onto the computer. I have to watch the original video on the camcorder and manually write down the date as it is displayed on the camcorder's screen. Does anyone have a way to do this? Would appreciate hearing - thanks!

Can't do it within UVS but there is a free programme here :-

which will do it for you

OK then - you have to pay for the full version - but the trial version is free and does not have any time limitations on it's use - it's only limitation is the length of the video you can use it on.

True BrianCee but the key word's here are "trisal version" not "limited version" It's common netiquette to pay for a program offered like that if you use it. There's plenty of free software available on the net such as this forum (the code) we are using right now but without people donating to the project both time and money it wouldn't get anywhere.

The trouble with this software is that it superimposes the date onto the video picture itself. I would like to have filename of the avi clip to be renamed with the date so it was available to me during editing so that I can use accurate dates in the titles.

The time and date of original filming is obviously transferred to your PC while capturing because it is shown as one of the lines of information under the preview screen - it is just a pity that it does not appear to be actually recorded any where on your computer, best option at the moment is to manually record the dates as you capture on a piece of paper and add them to your videos as subtitles.

Hi

For VS 8
After capturing, with the clip in the library float your mouse over the clip,
Wait for the info window to appear, which shows the record date and time.
This should save you the trouble of writing them down during capture.

Try WinDV to capture your video (free). It can split the video and name by date based on the DV time stamp.

Is there any other programs out there that would have that problem solved? I need to buy the editing software for my DV camcorder and would like to have date stamped to my DVD automatically. Would Pinnacle do i? Any suggestions as far as which program to buy?

If you really MUST have that information surely the way to do it is to switch on the option to have it recorded permanently and visibly on the tape at the time of creation - or are my video cameras the only ones that allow you to do that ??? .

As far as I know my camcorder (Sony Digital 8) doesn't have that option. Anybody aware of an editing software that would have that option incorporated in it? What about Ulead 9.0? Still no date option available?

UVS 9 doesn't have the ability to overlay the shooting date and time on top of the video, but it does have the ability to display it: Preferences -> Display DV Timecode in Preview Window.

You think as many times that this has come up that ULEAD would add this option? Get a Clue
