I am new to VideoStudio 11+ but I am very impressed. I have previously used Premiere Elements and Vegas MovieStudio Platinum. I have just produced my first movie with VS11 and burnt a DVD. But the DVD has loopback when I play it. I cannot find the menu in VS11 to choose single play. Help appreciated.

When you open the burning module, you insert the video you want to burn to disc. To choose the VS equivalent to single play, you go to the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen (Project Settings). At the bottom of the box that appears when you click the icon, you will see that by default 'Auto Repeat when disc playback ends' is ticked. Untick it, and then the dialogue immediately below it becomes active. Then you can choose either 'Continue to play next clip' or 'Back to Menu', which is the one you want... Simple!

Sorry Ken I spoke too soon. I tried the actions you listed but the subsequent DVD still loops back to the beginning. Are the previous settings saved in a file somewhere and re-generated? Should I delete the saved avi and iso files before buning a new disc?

I wouldn't bother deleting the other files just yet. But after making a change to the menu instruction, what I *would* do is close the burning module. This is the klutzy way Video Studio uses to get you to save the new menu settings. As the module closes, it will show it is saving something. Whatever it is -- just to confuse you further -- it is not your project file as such (apparently it is some other temp file which only remains active as long as Video Studio remains open).

Anyway, once you close the burning module, either go to File and use either Save to save the existing project file including the changed menu settings, or else Save As, and use a different project name, to save the same things but with a different tag.

On reopening the burning module, you should find that the new settings apply -- though I would probably still create a new ISO or (preferably, in my case) a DVD Folder of your project instead of burning to an actual disc. A DVD Folder can be played back in any software DVD player and allow you to check that everything is OK.

After spending about 5 hours trying everything I could think of, including deleting the previous avi file and saving my project under a different name then starting it up again, I have had to give up. Every DVD automatically loops back to the beginning even though all my choices have excluded that. I even tried the "go back to the menu" option since I do not have a menu but that did not make any difference. The only way I could make a single play DVD was to import the avi file into Premiere Elements and burn it with that but, of course rendering a previously rendered file did not produce a perfect result - especially with the stills. When I have time I will try generating a new small project from scratch to try that. If that fails it seems back to Premiere Elements which would be a pity because I like VS11.

This sounds like a similar problem I had a little while back. I could not create a DVD without a menu in VS11+ that did not loop back.

Are you creating a menu when burning your DVD? If not then I have posted the method I used to acheive a result that kind of works. It may be of use to you.

Thanks for the info DRB. I will probably get round to trying that or else I might just accept that I always have to have a menu. I suppose I could just make the intro menu say "Press the stop button now". It would be a pity to give up VS11 because I find it provides a much easier interface for handling effects than Premiere Elements.

Any new ways to get around with this?

I have VS 11.5+ and seem to have exactly the same problem. I have a single slideshow with no menus and whatever I try, the disc I create just automatically starts all over again after the slideshow finishes. DRB's workaround seems to work but it's not quite what I would like.

Thanks again for a quick reply. However, I already tried to read the whole thread and also the one DRB refers to and couldn't make this work.

So, I have a single mpeg file (a slideshow created with another product) and a music track. I don't have any menus. Burning that to a disc just seems to create an automatically looping DVD. Regardless of whether I tick or untick 'Auto repeat when disc playback ends' and regardless of what I choose for 'Clip playback', the resulting DVD just loops.

My project is a very short one, so it wasn't a huge effort to burn a number of DVDs yesterday with different settings to see the results in a real DVD and with my Samsung DVD player. It's all the same - the DVD just loops all over again. Unless I have seriously missed something, the problem is that the system just doesn't seem to work the way you would expect.

I'm running VS 11.5+.

I have given up trying to solve this problem which it seems only a few users have trouble with. I now use a 3rd party DVD authoring program to produce the discs, either Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 or the one that is packaged with Adobe Premiere Elements (my preference).

That's funny, because with v10 you can't make it loop at all - just does not work. So I guess they really fixed it in v11. Maybe they'll get it right in v12.

Couple years ago made a DVD of life highlights for our 40th wedding
anniversary using VS9. There was no menu. I don't recall if I checked
'return to play clip' or 'return to menu'. I do know there was a setting
on the DVD standalone player that allowed the DVD to play continuously
during the entire afternoon of the party

You are right. Most, if not all, DVD players have a "repeat" function; either by chapter, title, or all.
