Dropped Frames?

Post by jodancer27 »

Hi,
After finally sorting out an audio sync problem for putting my VHS tapes onto DVD I now find what I think must be dropped frames. An example is in a cartoon for example where the character seemes doubled at times.
I am using Avermedia EZmaker Pro USB 2.0 to capture and Video Studio 7 SE (this capture card doesn't seem to work with anything other that this program). The TV system is Pal. (Spain)
I can't seem to find the correct settings to configure the program to capture analogue video to edit to DVD, without either a video or audio problem.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance

The Avermedia EZmaker Pro USB 2.0 can capture direct to Mpeg2 without putting much load on your computer. A quick read of user comments (people either love it or hate it) suggests to me that those who hate it may be hooked up to a USB1.0 connection on their computers, which will severly restrict the quality of the captured video as well as limit your choice of capture properties.

Are you following the Recommended Procedure in the top post? You will find instructions on how to enable the dropped frame counter.

Thanks for the reply.
I have Video Studio 7 SE and when I open the file UVS.INI The Show Drop Frame Counter or anything similar does not appear. I cannot change the fps for Pal to 29.97 in the program as it it greyed out and won't let me change it.
It is connected to USB 2.0
Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi
The details for the drop frame counter for VS7 can be found at:-
For VS 8 its a different file, i got it wrong earlier this week

http://www.ulead.co.uk/tech/vs/vs70faq.htm

to save your time

Locate HerCap.ini file in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\7.0

Open HerCap.ini file and add "ShowFrameNumber=1" below [CAPTURE_SETTING] section. [CAPTURE_SETTING]
ShowFrameNumber = 1

Close and Save the ini file.
Launch VideoStudio 7 and go to the Capture stage, you will see the drop frame counter.

Note: The 1024x768 display area will make the drop-frame counter not show up very well on the Option Panel; however, you still can see it. The drop-frame counter will be completely shown when the display area is changed to 1280x1024.

Pal is 25 and there's a bunch of drivers on their site specifically addressing A/V issues with VS . http://www.aver.com/support/faq_ezmaker_prousb_20.shtml

Trevor -- I am sure it was only a typo, but your suggested line in the HerCap file is misleading. You showed it as "ShowFrameNumber = 1". In fact it should not have the spaces before and after the equal sign. In other words, it must be ShowFrameNumber=1

I was also going to question why the original poster was trying to change the frame rate to 29.97 when the PAL rate is 25 fps, but thecoalman beat me to the punch!

Sorry about that Ken

It least i got the correct file this time.

The info for the drop frame counter was copied and pasted from the Ulead FAQ page.

The offending line reads

Open HerCap.ini file and add "ShowFrameNumber=1" below [CAPTURE_SETTING] section. [CAPTURE_SETTING]
ShowFrameNumber = 1

The text in blue appears to be correct, red text has the space. Watch out for the " " marks.

All the Best
